“Authentic and genuine service”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

I came here with my wife many years ago - infact I proposed to my wife 20 years back in the Ashoka at Ginza. Once part of the Taj hotel I was a little wary going back ever since it was Privately owned. I AM AMAZED that the quality of the food (the naan is a must have) has not dampened . Above that you have wonderful attentive service with the host willing to chat (in English!)
The decor is a bit outdated but for some reason it still reminds me of my travels to India and staying at the Taj- if anything the Hilton building needs an update.

If your looking for a quick lunch- their lunch is efficient and tasty but you find their real gems through their dinner menu. Highly recommend the khandari naan and chicken moguli .
Don't be afraid to want to specialize your order- my wife asked if she could substitute chicken for lamb and they didn't seem to mind.

“best authentic indian food in Tokyo”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

I have been eating at Ashoka for years and was very pleased when my office moved next door to the Shinjuku Hilton. Most week days I eat lunch at Ashoka and having eaten at most Indian places in Tokyo over the past 27 years I like Ashoka the best. The lunch buffet is a great deal and very good quality and their set lunches are also excellent and reasonably priced. Delicious lamb curry with nan or rice and coffee for only Y950. Very friendly staff and excellent service. Ashoka is one of the original Indian restaurants in town and often caters parties for the Indian Embassy.

“Ashoka Hilton Tokyo”
Reviewed November 2, 2012

Very overpriced for average Indian food. If you order rice with your meal, ask for Basmati or you will get Japanese white sticky rice. Wine list is terrible. The wine available had probably been open for quite some time and was stale at best. They do not accept credit cards for lunch.

“Authentic, delicious Indian food in the heart of the business district”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

Ashoka is located in Hitopia, underneath the Hilton. The proprietor has been running restaurants in Tokyo for 30 years. He is fluent in English, Hindi, Tamil and Japanese. The food is a mix of South and North Indian. The South Indian food is very authentic including rasam and sambahr. There is vegan and vegetarian food as well as lots of lamb, chicken, goat and others. It was delightful and hot (temperature wise) and quick. The spice level was not very spicy hot, it was exactly right with a very mild balanced heat that was extremely flavorful. I am very picky about Indian food and this was fantastic. Not to be missed. This would be good for family or business. While I was eating there an Indian family came in for a special occasion - that speaks volumes. Highly recommended.

“Don't rush to go here”
Reviewed April 19, 2012

Went for the lunch buffet and was pretty disappointed. 4 hot dishes, 2 of which were ok, the other 2 were bland. Good nan though and it keeps coming. So you can fill up on that for 1000yen if all else fails.
Decor in dire need of a refresh!
