“Ashoka Hilton Tokyo”

Very overpriced for average Indian food. If you order rice with your meal, ask for Basmati or you will get Japanese white sticky rice. Wine list is terrible. The wine available had probably been open for quite some time and was stale at best. They do not accept credit cards for lunch.

“Authentic, delicious Indian food in the heart of the business district”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2012

Ashoka is located in Hitopia, underneath the Hilton. The proprietor has been running restaurants in Tokyo for 30 years. He is fluent in English, Hindi, Tamil and Japanese. The food is a mix of South and North Indian. The South Indian food is very authentic including rasam and sambahr. There is vegan and vegetarian food as well as lots of lamb, chicken, goat and others. It was delightful and hot (temperature wise) and quick. The spice level was not very spicy hot, it was exactly right with a very mild balanced heat that was extremely flavorful. I am very picky about Indian food and this was fantastic. Not to be missed. This would be good for family or business. While I was eating there an Indian family came in for a special occasion - that speaks volumes. Highly recommended.

“Don't rush to go here”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2012

Went for the lunch buffet and was pretty disappointed. 4 hot dishes, 2 of which were ok, the other 2 were bland. Good nan though and it keeps coming. So you can fill up on that for 1000yen if all else fails.
Decor in dire need of a refresh!

“If you are in a hurry, this is the place to go”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2011

Not a fancy restaurant, but quick and inexpensive. One of the few Indian restaurants with a buffet for lunch. They also have a one curry/nan/rice deal that is quite inexpensive and delivered even faster. Restaurant has been around for several years. I visited this place during a couple of earlier visits too. Pretty much the same food – except for the introduction of buffet this time.

Convenient access from Hilton ( just get down the elevator) and also nearby Hyatt Regency (walk across the street). Literally across Tocho-mae station on Oedo line. Walking distance from Shinjuku station. Get out of west exit, just follow the yellow line leading to Hilton/Hiltopia shopping plaza.
