Basically, this is the Tokyo version of Harlem in NYC. This is a place where foreign visitors should avoid.

“Awesome atmosphere!”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

Very safe area as is the rest of the city. The place looks awesome at night with all the colorful neon lights everywhere. There are countless restaurants and bars, karaoke, arcades..... almost anything you can think of.... and of course all the love hotels and massage parlors. Very interesting place, with so much to do. There is one building alone that has a shabu restaurant, internet cafe, karaoke bar, fighting arena, bowling ally, billards and darts, simulated golf, an arcade, pachinko, and a sauna/spa. That's just in one building! That place was called the humax or something. Just don't mind the bums who occasionally sleep outside the area.
Overall an awesome place. Just don't go there looking for any trouble or anything.... and just ignore the black guys.

“Tokyo Metropolitan Police working Hand in Gloves with kabukicho hookers.”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

one japanese met on streets of kabukicho & offered massage & exotic bath service at a yen15000 for one hour. After that he asked for deposit of another yen 10000. Took to an hourly hotel & asked me to wait & disappeared & never came back. Hotel manager asked for room rental of yen 2000. Manager is part of team. Sends a lady who asks for tips of 1000 to 3000. she also disappears.
went to police of kabukicho. The police officer after lot of persuation reluctantly goes along to hotel. But expresses his inability to do anything. He takes money from hotel manager. His cut is fixed in every hooker.
No hooker can progress without involvement of police.
The police advised me to keep mum. Reported the matter to police for foreigners thru my hotel also. They also advised to keep mum.

“Batting Cages, Red Light District”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

I like this place for their batting cages . Area is pretty small, on my short stroll found 2 batting cages. One is called Shinjuku Batting Cages and other one called Oslo Batting center. Cheapest is 300 yen for 28 baseballs you can hit. You choose what speed the pitch is ranging from 70mph and up . At around 0530 pm touts all around the streets offering some "services" from their respective clients. Dont ever trust those ppl esp. if theyre speaking English theyll rip off money from you . Massage parlors , bars , small hotels surround most of the area. Hmm what else .. and also if ever you get hungry there are lots of small restaurants around .

“Red lights !!”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

Well, it's for adults. But it is recommend to stroll around this area to discover something which is not in your country. Don't bring your kids here as you don't know how and don't think to answer them. It's fun and nice with all the LED signboard. It's very happening after 9pm.
