“Great tempura close to Shinjuku station”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

Was looking for a reasonably-priced tempura place in the Shinjuku area and the Tripdavisor reviews suggested this place might fit the bill. Was not disappointed. Tempura was extremely light and crispy, the service was prompt and friendly, and the sets represented good value (basic set meal ~ 1800 yen). The only thing that prevents a five star review was the atmosphere. The downstairs area has a nice ambiance, but the upstairs area is too bright and has a slight canteen feel. Still a great place to eat quality tempura on a budget.

“Amazing Tampura”
Reviewed June 29, 2013 via mobile

Really amazing food.
Our best Tampura experience in Japan.
They are really, really good at what they do.
They have English menu, and they speak English in case there are any questions.
We took the veggie Tampura set, and a set with sashimi and some sea food and fish Tampura.
The Tampura is served pice by pice to your plate...
Highly recommended!

“A little on the expensive side...”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

My family was trying to decide what to eat for dinner so I searched thru trip advisor for recommendations. Found this place to be a train ride away so we thought why not a tempura place? Their set meals were under 2000 yen. It turns out the set meal was good for one. Service was slow. The refills for the soup and the veggies were slow as well. I was a little disappointed. The decor itself was nice and a lot of people were patronizing the restaurant.

“great experience with amazing food!”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

Tried to make a reservation through hotel reception however was told they did not take bookings, so we walked in and were placed around the bar counter; the highly skilled tempura chef served us piece after piece of the best tempura i've ever had, service was amazing, and the staff spoke fluent english. a must try for anyone in the area for the first time, it'll make your night.

“Mouth-watering tempura”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

We read about this over 100 years old tempura restaurant from Internet blogs on gourmet Japanese dining. So, when my wife and I were in Shinjuku, we looked for it, not knowing its exact whereabouts or its Japanese name. It was our good fortune when a friend we were travelling with chanced upon this restaurant and told us about it.

The restaurant's name is written in Japanese, and its English name only appears in the menu. So, for tempura loving tourists, we have included photos of the restaurant's entrance and its Japanese name.

The restaurant's interiors is casual and well decorated. There are 2 sushi/tempura counters where guests can sit up close and watch the chefs at work. Groups can sit at the few dining tables in the dining area. If you expect the interiors to reflect its 100+ age, then you will be in for a pleasant surprise.

We selected the signature tempura set with sake to accompany our meal. Throughout our meal, the chefs observed our pace of eating, and prepared individual tempura items progressively. Hence, we were always assured of tempura that were crisp, well drained of oil and yet, not overly hot to burn our throats. We can savour the sweetness of fresh seafood and crispness of vegetables beneath the batter. Despite the generous servings, we ordered additional items to quell our taste buds.

It was truly a sublime dining experience of high quality tempura. Highly recommended.
