First of all - I MISS TOKYO!!!
Ok, now back to the hotel. Citadines is located 2 stations from Shinjuku main station itself and for a first-timer with a kid to Tokyo, it was madness and confusion trying to figure out their incredible spider-web metro lines! Even though it was 2 stops away! That is why i suggested i would stay in another hotel when i return next time, for people who prefer convenience and not too much walking, Citadines requires abit of travelling and walking from the main areas especially after a day of sight-seeing, you are exhausted!

From the Shinjuku-gyomae station where you stop, use the exit 2 (you can't miss it, it's a rather small station), go up the stairs all the way and turn left when you reach the surface. Turn left again almost immediately at a quiet street, which seems to be a walking street, not for cars, ALTHOUGH you will get an occasional vehicle just whizzing by, so BE CAREFUL. Walk down all the way and another 5 mins, turn right at a 7-11, and Citadines is right there. It faces a main road but it's extremely quiet with not much traffic, so don't worry about noise. Btw, if you follow that main road in front of Citadines all the way down, in 10 mins via cab, you'll reach Shinjuku, but in 20 mins on foot. So location-wise, it's close but not close??

For the hotel staff itself, they speak good english, but in my opinion, only 1 lady staff was extremely warm and helpful. She gave us good directions to tourist spots, good restaurants and was very kind. As for the rest though, they just seemed to be doing their job. Not very helpful when you asked them for anything.
For the hotel room itself - LOVED it. The best part was the size as I had a 4 year old girl and they had an extra bed rolled out from their sofa. It was definitely one of the bigger rooms in Tokyo considering how small the other hotel rooms are. (See attached photos)
Extremely clean, housekeeping was very efficient and considerate, LCD TV with limited cable channels (only kept watching Animal Planet, if not it's just Japanese shows), has a dvd player which i knew so i brought some dvds along but ALAS! It only plays region 2 dvds! Grrr.... Kitchenette was useful, comfy bed, basic bathroom with sink outside in the bedroom, and plenty storage. Another useful feature is they have a laundrette downstairs and my husband did ALOT of washing! Overall, our whole family LOVED the room.

Internet is not free downstairs and only wired internet is free in the room.
Didn't try their breakfast and it always looked closed when we came down around 10 in the morning.
So if you are choosing Citadines, I would give it a 90% YES but the 10% negative for would just be the location and the robotic staff. ENJOY!!

Had a wonderful stay at the Citadines.
Excellent value for a hotel in the Shinjuku area.
No major complaints.

Pros:
- room very clean and quiet
- the studio twin room was not large by US standards, but roomy by Tokyo standards; the bathroom space, however, was very tight although adequate
- internet access included in price
- room equipped with kitchenette with microwave, iron/ironing board, DVD player
- self-service washing machines in the building
- plenty of restaurants just around the corner on side streets, and several convenience stores nearby
- 5-minute walk to closest metro stop; but even the main Shinjuku area is within walking distance

Cons:
- on arriving, I was greeted by a notice in the room stating that a new building would be under CONSTRUCTION next door through mid June 2011; there was no warning of this ON THE WEBSITE! Hotels should always post notices on their websites of any construction scheduled to take place at or adjacent to the premises. It is NOT helpful to find out about construction only after you have arrived (especially if you have pre-paid for your stay!).
Fortunately, I did not hear any construction noise during my stay.

- the hotel should provide better instructions and maps on the English-version of their website for how to reach the hotel from the local metro stop

- instructions in the room for how to use the tv were very confusing (I couldn't figure out how to switch from japanese to english-language programs -- it required using two different remote control devices); but the front-desk clerks did explain the procedure for me when I asked

- fitness room pretty sad: has little equipment and no weights

- shower pressure could be stronger

- the size of the refrigerator was inadequate for really using the other kitchenette equipment to best advantage

I honestly wish more hotels around the world were like this one (but with larger rooms).

One of the small things that I really liked was the bathroom floor design. There was a very small narrow gutter running to a drain just outside the bathtub to collect any water splashing or dripping from the shower. All hotels should incorporate this design!

I would not hesitate to return to this hotel, assuming the prices remain reasonable. (Will prices skyrocket after the construction next door is over?)

The hotel is clean and well managed.
For the price we paid, we got a good size, cozy room, especially in Tokyo.
And we have got everything we need in the room.

Location is great too. 5 mins walk to the nearest metro station !
And there are at least 3 convenient stores located within 3 mins walk from the Hotel !

Highly Recommended Hotel in Shinjuku area !

Pretty much a carbon copy of its counterpart in Kyoto, but somehow not as good. A little faded and a less-helpful staff. Nothing particularly bad, just nothing special. Two subway stops from main Shinjuku station, but a convenient location abuzz with many dining/shopping options. A solid, sensible choice, but don't get too excited.

The hotel is as good as the past reviews. One thing that got us flabbergasted is this particular elderly male staff's (short haired, mid - late 40s) attitude. Approached him to extend our check-out timing for an hour and he snapped me with the reply "Are you going to pay for an extra hour of extension?" Sad but true..this guy lacks tact. Approach the female staffs..they are friendly and hospitable. I will recommend this hotel if the older chap changes his attitude.

Stayed for 4 nights during a business trip and found the hotel fine for my needs. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms clean and more spacious than others I have encountered in Tokyo. A continental breakfast was served which was fine and there are basic cooking facilities in the rooms. A nice touch was the complimentary bottled water and hot drink pack with coffee/tea/sugar sachets. The hotel is just 5- 10 minutes walk from the subway system and the very pleasant Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden (park).

This was my first time staying in Shinjuku, though my fourth time in Tokyo. Previously I've stayed at the Monterrey and Westin chains. I like Tokyo and I like urban environments, and this hotel in this neighbourhood were a very nice fit. THe neighbourhood is not quite typical Tokyo (what is?) - Shinjuku is the old red light district and now a trendy kind of place with lots of little food places to discover and a great rail hub right next door. Metro access is great and the apartment style was very good for my business needs - little desk, solid internet, solid service, nice little kitchenette, great bathroom, etc.

In Japan in general I recommend going with the $100 per night sarrariman type of hotel, as quality and cleanliness standards are so high in Japan that you rarely have cause for concern.

If I would change anything about the hotel at all it would be to put in slightly nicer pillows. The competition uses buckwheat pillows and I seriously enjoy that. And, the fitness room is really just a small room with three or four machines and a yoga mat. Not fancy but it works okay. Laundry machines are a great option however and much appreciated.
