“Clean & Convenient”
Reviewed February 9, 2013 via mobile

Everything about this hotel is great and as expected. It would probably be a 4 star in Australian standards. It has free, fast wifi & a 711 just down the road. It is safe and has an awesome restaurant district nearby. The only thing I under estimated was the distance to Shinjuku station and how far Narita airport is from the hotel. There is a subway nearby (5mins walk) but Shinjuku which is the main interconnect station from the airport line & bus drop off is a good 10-15mins walk or 900yen in a taxi. Also, Narita airport is about 1.5hrs by bus or train and the earliest they start are 5:30ish. We had a 6am flight so our only option was a 20,000yen taxi. I'd stay here again but don't under estimated travel time and distances like I did.

This was our first visit to Tokyo and friends advised us to stay in Shinjuku. After some research we booked 4 nights at the Citadines. It was an excellent base for our visit.

In terms of location, it is an easy walk to either the main Shinjuku station or one of the smaller, neighbouring metro stations - Gyoemmae or Sanchome. That being said, it was just a bit too far with suitcases, so we used a taxi on arrival and departure. (Cost from Shinjuku Station to the hotel was only 1070 Yen which is about US$12.) Thankfully, we had the address of our hotel written down in Japanese as the taxi driver did not speak English. There are a number of convenience stores and supermarkets closeby and a wide variety of restaurants in the neighbourhood. As a tourist, there is alot to see in the Shinjuku and surrounding areas.

We had an "Executive Studio" on the 8th floor, of 16. Our room was excellent and very spacious by Tokyo standards. It was very quiet, extremely clean, very comfortable and had everything you need. The kitchenette was well equipped with hotplate, microwave, toaster, kettle, saucepans etc. We only used the kitchen for breakfast, but if you were staying longer and wanting to cook meals, it was perfect. The bathroom had a Toto washlet toilet. There is a good sized couch and desk and a room divider so you can close off the bedroom, if you like. The flat screen TV is set up so you can slide it along the wall, depending upon whether you want to watch TV in bed or on the couch.

The front desk staff was very helpful, giving directions, and everyone spoke good English.

We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, ask for a room facing away from the street.

We are just back from our trip to Tokyo and we couldn't pick better hotel... To be honest, my boyfriend chose it and before we got there I wasn't sure it was the best idea - I wanted to stay in west Shinjuku where all skyscrapers are.. I couldn't be more wrong! Yes we went there, too, had brunch in Hyatt Tokyo's lounge (it's a must!) but everything is hapenning in east Shinjuku! Life, lights, restaurants, shopping.. and if you want just nice walk through small cute avenues, that's there, too! It's bit tricky to find it if this is your first time and you decide to walk from Shinjuku station as we did:) taxi is an option - it will cost you up to 1000 yen. Or metro that will bring you bit closer and 2 min walk. The best and easiest option if you fly in and out of Narita airport is combination of return ticket for Narita express (train from airport to shinjuku station) and SUICA card that made it so much easier to move around Tokyo (travel card for metro, busses, most of trains and even shopping) and it's easily rechargeable. And about the hotel, not much that hasn't been said yet to say.. Fantastic english speaking staff (as you will find not many people speak any other language than japanese here), spotless clean, modern, well equipped, comfortable. Ask at reception anything - about food, transport, prices - they will help you with all of it. For frequent traveler and person who likes her comfort I can genuinly say I would stay again and will recommend easily to anyone.

We stayed there for last week of January 2013. Didn't quite know what to expect as I hadnt been to Japan before but I was pleasantly surprised. Most of the staff spoke english and all were extremely helpful. I asked for a non smoking room and was given a room no problem on the only non smoking floor in the hotel. It just far enough out of the busy intersections of Shinjuku but close enough to walk to the station every day no problem. It is located on a main road but we had no issues with noise etc. We left to sightsee every morning and returned to a lovely clean room every evening. Rooms all have free wifi, dvd players A/C.
Super comfortable place to stay and excellent value for Japan. Cant comment on the food there, we ate out or breakfast in our room most days.

Room Tip: If you are not a smoker ask for a non smoking room. I think there is only one floor that is non smo...

The Citadenes never disappoints. This is the second time in two years that my partner and I have stayed here. As always the staff are extremely helpful in all matters. Their English is excellent and they were able to find me a doctor's surgery nearby when I was unwell on our last visit. They made an appointment and organised a taxi to take me there.
The hotel has coin operated laundry facilities which we have taken advantage of numerous times during our stays.
It is situated a short walk to Shinjukugyoenmae Station which is a couple of stops away from Shinjuku train station, one of the major train hubs in Tokyo.
There are many 24HR shops around including seven elevens, restaurants, coffee shops, curry houses, etc. All within easy walking distance.
Our room also had Kitchen facilities which are great if you want to save a bit of money and eat in once in a while.
The rooms have a bath so you can have a good soak the way the Japanese prefer.
The rooms are incredibly quiet even though the main street runs just outside.
T.V. has cable and includes many Japanese and English channels. There is even a DVD player provided.
Since our last visit they have upgraded the internet to wireless. It's included in the price and it's fast too.

I stayed at this hotel with a companion for four nights from 25th January 2013. The location is on a busy road just 5 minutes walk to the nearest Metro station - Shinjuku Gyoenmae, which is two stops on the Maronouchi Line at a cost of 160 Yen to the main Shinjuku Railway station. The Narita Express train stops at Shinjuku station. You can walk from the station to the hotel in about 25 minutes. It's an excellent base from which to explore the city. We loved the boutique style of the bright foyer and rooms. It had the appearance of a brand new hotel. It was immaculately clean. The room was quite spacious and had everything you could need including a flatscreen TV, DVD player, iron and board, in-room safe (free to use), a kitchen with kettle, toaster, hotplate and utensils. We even had our own wireless internet router which gave good service throughout the stay. The compact bathroom had a bath and shower and copious hot water. Although a note in the room advised of some building work close by we never had any disturbance, even from the road outside. A Seven-Eleven store and a Lawsons store are a few steps from the front door for any provisions you might need. We would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Tokyo.

Room Tip: Make sure you request a quiet room as there is building work nearby...

This hotel is a bit of an enigma for me, staff are fantastic and helpful, rooms are very clean and the beds are very comfortable.

However, breakfast was god awful and needs looking into, especially if the hotel insists on charging the premium that they do. Having stayed in a standard business chain in Japan before I have to say even they were in a different league and it's not a difficult thing to do. Maybe I'm focusing on the wrong thing but to see the quality of everything else and then this was a shock to my fragile disposition, such a contrast in any one place in space and time could cause a black hole.

The 'Gym' is very good if you want to go for a run or a cycle but don't expect any weights training, the one weight too heavy for a child to lift seems to have had it's partner stolen and could be the next rendition of a Super-Mario plot if a Nintendo executive ever find himself pumping iron in the Citadines Shinjuku.

One last note, the hotel is on a lovely quiet street 10 minutes from the main Shinjuku station where a train runs to Narita airport and is easy to find. There is also a very good Thai restaurant 5-10 minutes walk from this hotel which Trip Advisor will point you to if you use their locator App, however I must warn you it is in the middle of the raunchy part of a nearby LGBT district called 'friendly town' which doesn't seem to appear on any maps and could be quite confusing especially when faced with the high caliber of 'Iron Buns'.
