“Not that near to Shinjuku JR Station”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2012

Chosen this brand of hotels, Citadines, due to my positive stay in Citadines Mt. Sophia in Singapore (for more than two years) for business. Booked the hotel via their main website (one should join as a member to qualify for some discounts) and stayed here in December 2011 for a total of six days (though not consecutively). Firstly, the hotel is not anyway near to the Shinjuku JR Station. Yes, it's a five minutes walk to the nearest subway, Shinjuku-gyommae, but this is not the JR station where most of the action is (like changing your JR Pass, connecting to Tokyo station for free if you have the JR pass for connections to the shinkasen, etc). It's approximately around 20-25 minutes of leisure walk from this hotel to the JR station and you might want to reconsider bringing your luggage with you as the route to the station is very busy. The reception was ok, speak decent English and will always try to accommodate to your needs (like all other hotel staff do). The room is significantly smaller compared to the Citadines Mt Sophia in Singapore, but fits well for my wife and I. Plenty of restaurants / cafes and convenience stores nearby. Some of the restaurants (those that you order via the vending machines) are open 24 hours, so no worries if you need to grab a late or early bite. Checked out from the hotel on 1st January 2012, and the male hotel staff was making mochi via the traditional way (with wooden hammer and bowl). Was pleasant surprise and it was a treat for all hotel guests that day. On the whole, it's a pretty decent stay, but do remember, that this hotel is not near to the Shinjuku JR Station (an important note if you are having the JR pass).

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has a window. One of the days that we stayed, we were offered a room with no win...

stayed there with my husband. perfect location.. quite far from the nightlife of shinjuku for a good nice sleep but near enough to walk back at all hours of the night. the room size were good enough, considering its tokyo. i think its more economical in terms of space to stay there than to stay at any other higher priced hotel for the same amt of space. its 3-4 mins walk to the nearest metro station (the M line, which is abt 1 or 2 stops from the main shinjuku station).

we were upgraded on our third night there.

We booked this hotel knowing little about Tokyo or where the best place to stay would be.
It turns out it's near the gay precinct, which is great for restaurants and bars. There were quite a few western places which kept us If happy - including a Mexican restaurant, English pub and as usual in Japan, Italian restaurants(though some didn't have any english menus which made it difficult.) There was also the most fantastic vegetarian burger place practically across the road from the hotel.
The hotel and rooms were what I would call 'business standard.' The room was very small, the bathroom was smaller, and although it seemed quite modern the fittings weren't the greatest.
On our next trip to Tokyo I will pay closer attention to the sites I wish to visit(like the technology precinct) and book a more suitable venue - this hotel is quite a distance from anywhere(from memory it was a $30 taxi trip from Shinjuku railway station) and other than the relatively small gay area with bars and restaurant, there isn't much around.
I don't have much bad to say about the place(it was less than $100 a night) but I would choose differently next time.

Thanks to the previous reviewers of this hotel who with their positive reviews led us to it. It is as promised well located, excellent value with great amenities and service. It is easy to access from subway, JR and close to a multitude of eating places, coffee shops and convenience stores.

Room amenties allow meal preparation in own room if required.

We will happily stay again on our next trip to Tokyo.

Room Tip: We had a room at the back and our children one at the front. Equally as good as each other.

I have stayed here on multiple trips to Tokyo and wouldn't choose another hotel! The location is great- a quiet neighbourhood right in the centre of Shinjuku with lots of restaurants, shops and cafes nearby. If you don't feel like eating out, you can take the advantage of your fully equipped kitchen (and there is a convenience store conveniently located right next to Citadines). The studio is big enough for 2, a bit crammed for 3, but still a great value. Tripple rooms are especially hard to find in Tokyo, so this is a fantastic deal. It really feels like a home away from home.

Based on Tripadvisor reviews we chose this hotel for our stay in Tokyo in January. We were very pleased by what we found. Spacious rooms, equipped with fridge/stove/hot water kettle and all amenities. Clean and comfortable bed, satellite TV. Free internet (cable in hotel) or WIFI in the lobby.

Gym is very small (treadmill is about it). The breakfast is cheap but not great, best to go in the neighbourhood street or further up the road (towards town) there are several other restaurants.

We took the high speed train to the station as shown on the hotel website and found it was manageable to get there by transit with the final 100m on foot. Staff totally helpful and accommodating. I highly recommend the hotel

Room Tip: away from the elevators is good
