It is a really nice place, a traditional Japanese shrine. There's a great park next to it. We visited after the cherry blossom season so it wasn't so crowded, but still many people visiting.

This was one of the first places I visited in Tokyo and I think of it with quite a lot of nostalgia. It felt so foreign to me but really peaceful and 'Japanese' - it was exactly what I was looking for to start off my trip.
Beautifully clean and well kept and set my expectations for the rest of my travels.
Serene ambiance, perfect armony of nature and man made landscape. One of the places in such big city to find equilibrium.
Very crowded (though is was cherry season). If you are travelling to Kyoto or other cities you will see better, more peaceful shrines elsewhere.
It is a long walk to the shrine, so wear good shoes. We were lucky enough to see a Japanese wedding. There are charms you can buy for various prayers. There is a nice small lake which is quieter than the rest of the shrine grounds.
A beautiful shrine. Busy but fascinating with traditional Shinto weddings taking place and other ritual displays.
