“Avoid this restaurant to avoid disappointment”
Reviewed February 24, 2012

The teppanyaki chef completed his job within an hour and we felt we're fed. There's always another couse ready before we finished the earlier course. We ordered the most expensive Kobe beef set menu which comprised foie gras and Kobe beef. The foie gras was fried for about a minute on each side and hence the inside was still cold when it was served. For the Kobe sirloin, we demanded for medium rare. It was fried for about one minute on each side but the inside was also cold when served. The plates for serving the beef weren't warmed before and hence the meat placed on them cooled down quickly. I wouldn't expect dinner at this pricey restaurant could be finished just over an hour.

“Great value for money”
Reviewed November 7, 2011

Teppanyaki has always been an expensive dining experience so when we first learned about this restaurant from a close friend of mine many years ago, we did not take immediate actions. It was until most recently, that Seryna Shinjuku introduced a special lunch menu at 1,900/2,500Yens, then we decided to give it a shot.

The restaurant is located on the 52/F of the Shinjuku Sumitomo Building. Great view of the neighbouring Shinjuku area. We ordered the lunch set with sirloin steak and it was mouthwashing. Our chef showed off his cooking techniques right in front of us and we got full value from both food and entertainment standpoint.

The portion of the steak was a bit small but they offered complimentary amuse bouche, salad, dessert and drinks, which more than made up for it. I say this place is a must-go if you are shopping in the Shinjuku area.

“Yum! and also Ouch$!”
Reviewed April 15, 2010

We had been watching our budget and were prepared to splurge a little bit the last night of our trip. We told our hotel concierge we want Kobe Beef so they reserved Serina for us. It is right outside of Exit 6 Shinjuku Station. We went to the 52nd floor, sat down, they took our jackets, put a bib on us.... Then we opened the menus and upon viewing the prices I nearly fell out of my chair.

We chose to get Teppinyaki (where the guy grills it infront of you kind of like Benihana's in the US but waaayy more expensive), because the concept of boiled meat is rather... well... yuck. I have no idea how high the Shabu Shabu prices are but... if they are comparable than sucks because I hear you have to boil your meat yourself.

After we got over the initial shock of the prices we decided to go with the cheapest course on the menu and even get the upgrade for Kobe Beef (as that was the purpose of us coming in the first place). 10,000 yen + 5500 for the Kobe Beef Upgrade + 2,000 for two beers (wine would've paired better but at that point we were ridiculously above our budget). The dinner came with 2 appetizers, Kobe Beef, and a creme brulee dessert as you went to their desert bar with beautiful 52nd story view over Tokyo. All in all this was a $185/person experience.

Kobe Beef changed my life. I had $70 steak in the states and thought that was ridiculously amazing. Kobe Beef here was completely different. The beef serving was tiny... but it literally melted in my mouth with beefy goodness. Our chef spoke basic English so he wasn't entirely entertaining, but his culinary prowess or the beefs goodness more than made up for everything.

We were so euphoric and happy from the steak we crashed at our hotel and forgot to go party hearty in Roppongi that night (but we probably didn't have any money left anyway).

So this is more of a plug for Kobe Beef than this restaurant... but it was my only Kobe Beef experience so go for it. Live a little
