Citadines Central Shinjuku Tokyo
Ranked #7 of 87 Hotels / Ryokan in Shinjuku

We stayed here twice in August, and I have nothing bad to say about the hotel itself. The location is fantastic (with one major reservation below), with easy access to Shinjuku Station and the subways, as well as everything the livelier side of Shinjuku has to offer.

Room: We had two identical rooms, the first stay facing the Golden Gai area and the second, longer, stay facing the street. If you have a choice, I'd recommend the street, if only because it was a bit quieter. The rooms themselves were, as expected for Tokyo, tight spaces. That said the rooms were modern and clean. The bathroom was impeccable and I loved the high pressure shower!

Service: The front desk staff was very helpful and willing to help. They were able to help with basic directions as well as holding luggage. Our reservations were direct through the hotel's website, and there were no issues with either one.

Breakfast: The included buffet breakfast was nothing to write home about, but it did the trick in jump-starting our day. The restaurant was a nice place to sit for a second and plan out heavy days of sightseeing.

Location: For the most part, you can't ask for a better location in Tokyo. The easy access to Shinjuku Station made exploring Tokyo a breeze. During the day it was safe as can be. At night however we did have major issues with the African guys who prey on you aggressively to go to the racier places around the hotel. In two weeks in Japan, the only times we felt unsafe -- in what's really a very secure country -- where when these "gentlemen" who hang outside of the hotel entrance would try to grab your hand or put their arms around your shoulders. While I hesitate to dock a great hotel points for this, It did made for a few particularly awful returns to the hotel at night.

Great night life, and convenient to the train station. Rooms were small but nicely appointed.

Very nice hotel near Shinjuku. Although 10mins walk from the actual station, it's 2mins walk from one of the station exit.

Shinjuku is a good place to stay as it's got direct trains to most of the sights.

Not really in the red light district, just outskirt of it.

Hotel room is good size for japan standard. Very new, modern and clean. Free internet via cable.

Free breakfast, which was nice, but best thing is the breakfast voucher can be used as cash in the Lawson convenience store downstairs.

Would definitely recommend this to freinds, and would stay here again.

A great hotel in Shinjuku, near to a good shopping area with big department stores and Shinjuku Gyoen park (which is by far the best place to see Sakura blossom in Tokyo). The hotel looms above the Golden Gai in an area which is brimming with life at all hours. Our room was stylish but small with a view over the roof tops to the skyscrapers on the West side of Shinjuku. The bathroom was small but very well designed. Breakfast was good too with both Japanese and Western food available, Location wise Shinjuku is perfect as there are 3 subway lines and you can take the Yamanote line around town or the Chuo Line across town. The staff were friendly and checked us in early. Considering the price this is an excellent deal - our money went further than with a hotel in London or Paris.

My husband and I stayed at the Best Western Astina hotel for 5 nights in July. I chose the hotel for the location and positive reviews, and I was very happy with my choice. As everyone else has noted, the rooms were very small. Since I was expecting this, it wasn't a huge deal. Outside of not having a good place to store our luggage, the room was great for my husband and I. The bathroom was large and a very nice place to shower/soak after a long, hot, and humid summer day. My only complaint is that it was a bit pricey.

We LOVED staying in the Shinjuku area. The station confused us every time, but we always ended up eventually making our way back to the hotel. The area has so much personality - lots of people, fortune tellers on the street, clubs - and we loved experiencing the Golden Gai area, which was right behind the hotel. Having a Lawson's (convenience store) so close was really handy, too.

I'd definitely recommend this hotel to someone who is looking to stay in an action-packed part of town that has convenient access to public transportation.
