The hostel is actually not bad, but:

- The capsules has not a plug inside them , so it is not possible to charge the laptop/mobile, during the night. It is prety incovenient.
- The lockers are too narrow, so i had to leave my backpack inside the capsule. Of course without any lock.
- Shower is not free it works with coins 100YEN - 10 Minutes.
-If you are looking to experience the capsule hotels in Japan, this is not your place. It has nothing to do with the capsule hotels that i've known afterwards.
- Sadly, during the two nights i spent there, a crazy guy yelling a drinking all night inside the bathroom made it a bad experience.

Hostel is very conveniently located and it has everything you expect from a hostel. Internet is fast and reliable.
One problem is that the rooms are very crowded, and there is a shortage of power outlets for charging your phone / tablet. You wont be able to charge it close to your bed.
The other problem is drunk americans who are quite keen on comming back form party at 5 am and not trying to be considerate at all.
Nevertheless, I would recommend this place.

Room Tip: Capsule rooms are pretty cool if you want to experience JAPANESE STYLE!

Once you get past the locker room smell of the front entrance (I blame it on the 'leave your shoes at the door' policy) it is definitely one of the nicer and quieter hostels I've stayed in. Each access to the train. Super helpful, English-speaking staff.

I can't say I enjoyed my stay here and that's because of the inconsiderate guests. People coming in drunk at all hours talking and giggling in the accommodation areas, people putting on alarms to wake them, but not to get up and turn them off but the leave them to keep alarming at 10 minute intervals from 6am!, people opening the balcony door so you could hear all the traffic while people were still in bed, people banging around in their lockers etc the list goes on!
I never noticed any weird smells which other people mentioned, we were on the 6th floor. The capsules were decent, needs a power outlet though! The showers were fine and they provide shampoo and body wash. I had a bath here which was 300 yen, it must have been the smallest bath I have ever seen in my life but it was deep and so so worth it! There is tea/coffee downstairs in reception with also a wealth of information for guests in various languages. The common room is soulless and needs to have hot water, you have to go down 9 floors if you want a cup of coffee etc The seats need replacing and so does the carpet in the common room as they have seen better days. I would stay here again but only for 1 night, haven't slept well at all here! Directions could have been better for what line to get on to at Shinjuku, we had a late flight in and missed the last train as we had no idea where to go!

GUESTS: have some consideration for others when staying in hostels and stop being so selfish to only think about yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros:
1. It is 1 min walk from akebonobashi station and family mart / curry house / ramen / coffee shop are all very close.
2. It is cheap.
3. You can rent bikes for 500 yen a day (however the bikes are quite old)
4. Showers have good heat and pressure (although you have to pay 100 yen for 10 mins in the coin machine situated in the shower)
5. Good place to meet people (so long as you are jn
Cons
1. The lockers in the dorm are stupidly thin. they were not wide enough for our relatively small (45 litre) backpacks which was quite annoying.
2. The common room is old, dirty and dated, and lit by extremely bright fluorescent lighting. for the price I was not expecting much but have stayed in other hostels for same price with common rooms that are kept in much better condition.
3. They have ONE elevator for all 10 floors which is extremely slow. The only other option is to take the stairs which are outside and even then I do no think the steps reach all the floors.

If you are looking for a cheap place to lay your head in a good location I would recommend. we have stayed before on the 10th floor in normal beds in a large mixed dorm. The beds were not that comfortable but the room was open and spacious. We have also stayed on the 6th floor in the capsule beds which are surprisingly comfy and spacious. There is no power outlet in the beds however you can use one of the sockets in the common room.

Ace Inc Shinjuku is great location..the subway is close by. You can walk to Shinjuku or two stops from the subways. This is a hostel but capsule room. Be honest I can't breath at first night but get used to it after two days. The hotel is close to Tokyo gay area ( Shinjuku Ni-Chome). You can walk about 25 mins or take a subway just one stop. Staff are very friendly and helpful. They all speak English well. FYI, shoes off when you enter the room and there is ¥100 yen for shower for 15 mins. ($1 USD). Also it has a funny smell at first too but over all it's clean.

I went on a solo backpacking trip to Japan and stayed at Ace Inn, Shinjuku for a night. It was a pretty good low-budget hostel. I actually liked the fact that it was a Capsule hotel as it provided privacy despite having 20+ people in the room. It was also a good venue to meet fellow traveller's as I even got to meet a group of travelling Brazilians that invited me to a night out with them. Overall, I think it's a good experience to try staying at Ace Inn.
