Visited for an early Thanksgiving dinner on 26 November 2009. I recognize El Torito as a US chain restaurant, but I had never been to one in the US. This location has been there for at least 3 years--first floor of a large office building, next to Shinjuku JR station.
The menu had a wide variety of standard Mexican chain appetizers and entrees. It appears to have a full service bar. I had the chicken and shrimp fajita dinner for 1990 yen ($US 18). Portion was average size for US but would be considered large for Japan. Everything tasted very good. All the spices were conservative in consideration of Japanese taste.
I could tell the tortillas (8 pieces) with the meal were freshly made. They used butter which is not traditional, but it was OK. On the way out, I noticed the big window into the kitchen where you can see the tortillas being made. Free chips and salsa were offered.
The decor is Tokyo's spin on a Mexican restaurant--as realistic as Japanese restaurant decor is outside of Japan. They were playing English language Christmas music. The staff was greeting everybody in simple Spanish.
This would be a good date restaurant. Will definitely visit again.
