Description: Since our founding, we have been delivering "soft pork cutlets that can be cut with chopsticks". Soft meat carefully selected and carefully chopped, Maisen's original bread crumbs, Meister's (craftsman's) bread crumbs technique, and original sweet sauce. Tonkatsu Maisen continues to maintain its commitment without compromising on its deliciousness. Please enjoy the freshly fried pork cutlet with bread crumbs one by one wholeheartedly by the craftsmen of the Aoyama main store. The most popular is the brand pig "Kurobuta". Branded pork "Sweet Temptation" raised using the bread ears of Maisen's fillet cutlets sandwich as feed is also a rare pork cutlet that can only be eaten here.

The tonkatsu here is fantastic. It is usually crowded after 7:30pm but if you get there around 6-6:30 it is usually pretty empty. Their signature dish is the Kurobata (black pig) tonkatsu - it is so tender inside and crispy on the outside. Definitely a "must try" dish.

Ate here based on trip advisor recommendations and happy we did!! Went for the set menu at lunch which was fantastic!! Really, really tasty food and great value! Short cue at approximately 1pm. Lovely service. An added bonus - the restaurant is in a fun neighbourhood to walk around after your meal!

Tonkatsu is not the food that make Japan famous. But it's hearty, tasty, satisfying and usually a great deal - with just enough ritual and disparate elements that I've rarely seen it done right outside Japan. This place is not a shrine, exactly, but it features many varieties of pork and sauces, all lovingly explained on the menu. The breading is flaky and tasty and almost like eating candy. I hadn't been for ten years but on a recent trip to Tokyo all was as expected, and I can't wait for them to open a branch in my hometown.

I arrived here about 20 minutes prior to them opening and there was already a line. I was seated at the bar and I ordered a kurobuta tonkatsu set. My first bite made my eyes close and I went to a happy happy place as all the flavor hit me. Seriously though, this was one of the best things I have ever eaten.

Maisen is known as one of the best tonkatsu places in Tokyo so do yourself a favor and eat here!

With the help of the google map, we found this restaurant for lunch on a Sunday. We joined the line and waited for 20 minutes under the sun. When it was our turn to go inside, we were asked to sit on a bench and it turned out to be another 15 minutes of waiting.

Our table was at the dining hall inside and the whole place was something from the past. We ordered the Kurobuta fillet set, prawn set as well as the cold Chinese noodle. The pork was not fatty but still it was tender and tasty. It was not the best Tonkatsu I have ever tasted but I still recommend this place for its nostalgic style.
