“Good boy Hachiko”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Hachiko is the dog statue at Shibuya station where a lot of people meet up with their friends. The story goes that Haciko the dog walked to the station with his owner everyday and waited for him to come home. After the owner died the dog would sneak out of the house and wait at the station for his owner to come back. Now a symbol of Japanese loyalty.

“Hachiko!!”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

If you know the legends, go find the statue... =)

Very good, loyal dog...

But since it's at Shinjuku Station Exit 8, it's EXTREMELY CROWDED!! So people with young children, please be careful, as you can find the busiest Shibuya crossing there as well.

“Hachiko”

The Hachiko Bronze Statue is a touching site. Not only Japanese adore Hachiko but also foreign visitors and tourists make a point of visiting this famous dog. There is a new book about the true life of Hachiko by Mayumi Itoh available at Amazon. Enjoy!

“Cute Activity for Kids”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

This station was a weekly stop for me when I lived in Japan. It's a major station and it's Japan so expect to be surrounded by others. Close to 400,000 passengers use the JR line daily then there's the metro (200,000) & the Keio (300,000+).
It's fun for kids to follow the paw prints around/through the station that somewhat lead to the statue.
Unfortunately, it's hard to get a decent pic w/the statue since it's elevated. Perhaps putting people in the foreground or just no one at all. Or buy a postcard!
Later, you can explore some of the many streets radiating outward.
We don't smoke but it didn't bother us. We just didn't notice it & didn't linger once we took the picture.
Like any such place, it's good to know the story somewhat before visiting.

“But dog is cute”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Meeting place where you cannot find anyone because it is just too crowded.
But good excuse if you are late.
Smells after tobacco, full of youngsters, very noisy and barely any place to sit down.
But yes please continue meeting there so that other places remain less crowded.
