Comfortable, clean, and quiet. Good shower pressure with plenty of hot water.

Tokyo size... Be prepared. Don't expect large rooms in this city (similar to HongKong for example), and certainly not for this price.

BEST part about this hotel... LOCATION. Tokyo a Metro Train literally foot steps away.

lots of v. good, even glowing reviews here and for many people, this would be a more than adequate place to stay. If access to transportation and the Shinjuku area (not in itself a sightseeing hot spot, tho the shopping is plentiful) is key, then it will satisfy. However, this is a hotel v. much in the Japanese style, i.e., smoking is still allowed in the rooms, and as a great many Japanese still smoke, most of the rooms here are smoking rooms. If you enjoy the smell of smoke in the morning, in your corridor, wafting underneath your door, and your room permeated in that particular scent, you are in luck. The key here is to book far in advance, be prepared for rooms where it is diffcult to even fit a spot for your bag, expect a b'fast (if included) that would delight a local but is light on delight for westerners. The staff is v. helpful, and friendly--this must be the only hotel in the world with enough front desk staff. If you are a tourist, not a frequent traveler, a smoker, this place is great. I've stayed here before, will probably stay here again, but not willingly…it was the last "real' hotel available for booking, and what I paid (for the large room) was exactly equal to what i would pay at the lower end Hyatts and Hilton here…and for my money, they are a better value. Book far in advance, be prepared for the things i mentioned above, and you'll be fine.

Room Tip: if you've got the bucks, go for the largest size rooms.

Tokyo is expensive so if you are looking for an economy priced room, this is OK, but be prepared for a very small room. Cosy for two people with the bed up against the wall. But it is fine for a few nights. The breakfast was surprising good and the good location make this place a good option.

The first thing I experienced when walking through the doors is that we must have walked into the wrong hotel, as it was far too fancy and expensive looking for the price I paid. However I wasn't mistaken, and our rooms were ready and waiting for us.

Considering the quality of the interior, the friendliness of the staff and most importantly, the location, I would have expected to pay double what I did for a hotel like this. I've stayed in tiny 2 night rundown dorms for more than this relatively speaking.

The hotel is in an absolute prime location. It is literally in the centre of the cities transport hub, but just far away from it that you don't get any noise pollution at all. Less than 30 seconds round the corner from the hotel is a subway entrance for the Shinjuku Toei line and the Oedo line, both of which can connect to most other lines with ease. However, less than 5 minutes walk down the street is the main Shinjuku station, where all of the JR lines for the city run through, as well as many of the other national lines (only exception is the shinkansen I believe). Getting anywhere in the city from here is very easy and efficient, and nicely affordable.

The rooms are pleasant, if not a little compact. A little more floor space, or a wardrobe would of been ideal, but as the only time we spent in the hotel was to sleep, it made little difference. The bathroom was clean and well fitted, and the room came with a water heater and a fridge so we could keep our own food to save on cost. Speaking of food, there is a Family Mart convenience store literally across the road from the hotel for cheap snacks and little essentials like coffee or milk.

The only real gripe I had with the entire service was the internet access. Although it was free (worked into the price at least), in 2014 in the worlds biggest city, I'd expect better. It was very hit and miss, with drop outs on both Wi-Fi and LAN cable common, and speeds varying from a full 1m/bs to a crawl of 56k speeds.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone staying any length of time, especially if you're sight seeing and will be travelling around the entirety of Tokyo, and not there for a specific location or purpose.

Room Tip: Twin rooms seem scarce, so unless you want to share with a buddy like I did, book early.

Shinjuku is one of Japan's shopping districts, with most stores open until 10pm, and this hotel is walking distance to all the stores and near the subway.

On our 4-day holiday (party of 2), we arrived at 10:30 am at the Narita airport. Before we left the airport, we purchased bus limousine tickets (2-way) that included a 2-consecutive day subway pass via Tokyo Metro for only ¥6,100. This took care of getting from the airport to and from the Hotel Sunroute Plaza at Shinjuku and our transportation in and around Tokyo. That's not bad considering cab fares can be quite expensive in Tokyo. From the airport, a 1-hour and 45 minute drive took us to the Shinjuku bus terminal which is 3 blocks (1 main thoroughfare and 2 small streets) away from the hotel - a 5-minute walk straight down the road so it was no trouble even if we had our suit cases in tow.

Check-in is at 2:00 pm and we arrived shortly before 2:00 pm so we left our luggage with the kind staff at the lobby and had some lunch. By 2pm, our room was ready at the 10th floor.

The room may not have been more than 28 sqm (which is typical in most hotels in the city), but what the room lacked in space, it made up for in cleanliness. The room was very, very clean. It had a queen sized bed, a good TV (mostly Japanese channels, a ref, a study table, an open cabinet for coats, complimentary room slippers, a hot pot with complimentary green tea (if you're a coffee drinker, bring your own coffee sachet mix), clean white towels for 2, a good strong hair dryer, bath and body soap, room robes for 2, and a fairly decent toiletry kit that included a tooth brush, black cotton swabs and a brush among others. The bed was comfortable (twin sharing) and while the pillows were not as fluffy as I would want them to be, they were nothing to rant about. The room had a window that opened at the sides (about 8 inches) so no view, not even a good one of the street, but good enough to allow for ventilation.

The hotel is a 2-minute walk to good authentic Japanese restaurants, a Family Mart 24-hour convenience store, Segafredo for coffee, a 24-hour McDonalds and a 5-minute walk to the huge Takashimaya mall (with a 2-storey Uniqlo). If the weather is harsh, the European restaurant at the ground floor has relatively reasonable prices. To visit other parts of the city, the hotel is a 5-minute walk to the Shinjuku subway station that can bring you to Ginza or Tokyo central.

I would definitely recommend the Sunroute Hotel to any 1st time shopping traveler to Japan.

The hotel location was great as it is quite near Shinjuku station, however if you decided to take the NEX instead of the Limobus are pulling luggages along, it would feel like it's quite a walk. The hotel is quite near some camera shops where they sell tons of accessories for the camera, something that, in my opinion, can't be or rarely found in my country. There are a few convenient stalls nearby and also a Krispy Kreme cafe just 10mins walk away. The hotel is also near several departmental stores with some right above Shinjuku station itself.
The room (Economy Twin Room on the 7th floor) that my friend and I stayed in however is a little disappointing as it is very small. We didn't have enough space to lay our luggages down, my friend had to place her luggage near the door and I had to squeeze mine near the desk. We also stayed in the Economy Double Room on the 3rd floor and it felt little bigger as it only has one double bed. On the other hand, the room service was excellent as the housekeepers change the room amenities everyday. WIFI is also available in the room on the higher floors but tends to clash with the lobby WIFI when staying on the lower floors.

Room Tip: For 2 travelers with big luggages and prefer individual beds, try not to choose the Economy Twin Roo...
