We stayed 2 nights @ Hotel Sunroute towards the end of our Japan holiday. We booked a standard twin room with breakfast @ JPY 15695 per night. Hotel Sunroute is located on a quiet street parallel to Hotel Century Southern Tower where we stayed a night before our trip to Kawaguchiko. Upon checking in, we were given a complimentary room upgrade to a Universal Room (Room 351) with special features tailored for handicapped/elderly guests.

The room is spacious and the decor sleek and modern and I love the Pola brand of shampoo, conditioner and body gel in the bathroom! It would be perfect if moisturising body lotion is also provided. Breakfast spread was ample with a good range of continental and Japanese selections. This is one of the best breakfast spreads during our trip. The Guest Lounge on the 2/F is accessible by using the room key card for free computer access and printing of our boarding passes.

Access to JR Shinjuku Station (South Exit) is a short 5 mins walk & so are Takashimaya, Tokyu Hands and Time Square! How convenient! Hotel Sunroute is located in a quiet side of Shibuya/Shinjuku but still central to all the shopping and restaurants. For heights-phobia guests, a stay here is recommended as it is a low-rise building compared to many of the skyscraper hotels in the area.

I have stayed seven nights in this hotel in early November, 2012 and found that it has everything that an average traveller in Japan could dream of: excellent location: close to JR and metro lines, surrounded by numerous restaurants and shops; helpful staff; quite room-no noise from road or neighbour and central air conditioning system is very quiet too; great breakfast both in Japanese and Western style; super clean and comfort room....

tips: the easiest and quickest way to hotel from NRT airport is to take airport express bus which will drop you off at this hotel. Do not underestimate the complexity of Shinjuku station. It is like a maze inside and try to find a way to hotel with luggage is mission impossible.

There is no need to get a list of recommended restaurants from hotel as there are numerous of them and just follow the crowd you will find a good one.

Buy a couple of two day metro pass at NRT airport when you come out of custom as this will save you about 30% and this deal is only availabe at NRT airport.

Located about 5 mins from Shinjuku station where you can access 90% of Tokyo by JR rails. Also conveniently located near shopping and food establishments. Rooms are clean and adequately furnished. Rooms may be small as in most hotels unless you stay in a five star hotel which costs you a bomb compared to Sunroute. Most rooms are small but it doesn't bother me as I'm out sightseeing most of the days. Its comfortable enough for a good night sleep after a long day.
Have joined their sunroute club and enjoyed a good deal of savings.
Highly recommended.

We stayed here for a tourist trip to Tokyo for 9 nights. The staff are incredibly pleasant, quick, efficient and speak English decently enough to understand and mostly get your point across (good for Japan). It is located 3 minute walk from Shinjuku station, which is a good location for those who love to shop, as this is a major shopping district. Probably is also good for business travelers, as this is also a skyscaper/business district. Although it's right by the metro, we had a major problem going to all the typical touristy spots, which required at least 20-30 minutes commute on the metro. Our recommendation for tourists, if shopping is not your main concern, is to find a hotel as close to the Tokyo station as possible, as we found ourselves going to or through that area almost daily.

There are two mini-marts right by the hotel - 7/11 and FamilyMart. They provide quick, convenient and more or less affordable (by Japanese standards) meal options. However, there are many restaurants in Shinjuku, including junk McDonald's next door. Many places are tourist traps - so we recommend stopping at ones where you see a line of locals outside the door. Another huge convenience of the location is that a Citi Bank ATM is right by the hotel in the Maynards tower next door.

The room, although pretty small, was clean and had everything you need, including, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, face wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, crappy shaver, qtips, body sponge, shower cap and hair dryer. They provide an electric water boiler and tea, but we didn't see coffee there. The room was very clean, the bed was incredibly comfortable despite being firm. TV was hard to use if you want to find any English channels - we discovered two exist. The a/c and heater worked very well, but everything required the use of the provided manual (very easy to understand). There is a mini-fridge without junk to buy, so you can store food in there easily. The internet is wired (short cable is provided); we asked for a longer cable to use our laptio in bed. They were very happy to provide one, but didn't forget to ask for it back during check out. The internet was slow and inconsistent, but they made up for it with a fancy Japanese toilet - the kind you heard about. :) Our butts have never felt so clean after their warm bidet. The shower head has two height positions and the water pressure is great. Although the temperature was able to be very hot if needed, the temperature seemed to fluctuate mildly.

Sound insulation was great for keeping street noise out, but you could hear what was going on in the hall, it even woke us up one night when our neighbors decided to be very loud late at night in the hallway. The maids respected our signs on the door, but we locked up our suitcases anyway from past experiences in other countries. Their maids were Japanese and always greeted us when we passed by them. They definitely made us feel that our stuff will be there when we returned. They did a good job respecting our stuff when they cleaned the rooms. One negative about the cleanliness: we spotted a roach in the middle of the night while going to the bathroom, although it was just once. We always kept our eye out for him ever since.

We can't comment on any of their other services because we didn't not use them. The check out was quick and easy. If only American hotels were this efficient. Overall our stay was pleasant, but we would probably stay closer to the Tokyo station next time.

The hotel is well located, with small but comfortable bedrooms. My only complaint would be that there is only net up to the the 2nd floor. As I brought my travel router, I just connected it to the wired lan in the bedroom and problem solved.

I walked in for a last minute reservation and the staff was very accommodating. The room was adequate, and the location was very convenient. about 5 minutes from the metro, and a as usual being right in the middle of Shinjuku, there is a lot of food to choose from. I would definitely stay again.

Stayed here in Oct 2012 for couple of days
Good hotel with helpful staff
Good location
However i was given a smoking room/floor because non smoking room/floor was all fully booked and no other alternatives were offered
Sound proof windows are great in the middle of the noisy Shinjuku
No breakfast wass included in the package but there are a lot of restaurants nearby
In the near future, i would choose either Super hotel or Toyoko inn because these jp hotel chains will provide FREE and GOOD buffet breakfast every morning.
A simple breakfast will simply cost more than Yen 1,000 per person in jp.

Room Tip: Request very early for a non smoking room/floor or you will smell like a chimney every single day (i...
