We stayed at the Sunroute Plaza last year. That time we booked through a hotel booking engine and ended up in a room (and a whole floor) that stank of smoke despite requesting a non-smoking room.

This time we booked direct and moved up from an economy double to a non-smoking queen bedded room and that's exactly what we got.

Last room on the 14th floor (1401) we had a partial view out of the hotel across part of Shinjuku (office block straight across, view was behind us).

The room was spotless and very clearly non-smoking as was the floor by the lack of any smoke smell in the hallway. Odd configuration of the room so that you couldn't sit in bed and watch TV unless you twisted around. No cupboard of any kind, just some hangers on the wall in the hallway. So don't plan on staying here for a long time if you don't like living out of a suitcase.

As with every hotel bed we've ever slept on in Japan it was hard, but softer than most. Awful hard pillows as usual though.

Breakfast was again good and staff friendly in the restaurant and reception.

Expensive compared to the economy double we booked last year but infinitely better due to bigger bed and lack of horrid stale smoke smell.

We will most likely stay at Sunroute Plaza when we next travel to Japan.

Room Tip: Book direct, request non-smoking, if you can afford it go for a queen room as well

My better half and I recently spent a week based in this great hotel just south of Shinjuku station in Tokyo. Our early flight meant that we arrived at 6am (8 hours before checkin) and they safely stowed our luggage away so we could enjoy our first day. On check in we were suprised by being upgraded to a better room. The rooms themselves were smaller than European standards but still ample for a couple, clean and air conditioned. Robes, tea, coffee, slippers everything was provided. Reception were helpful and went out of their way to make an impression. One chap even raided his own personal stores to help me out with cream for my Mozzie bite. Location was great for the Overland trains and Metro esp if you're planning on heading South or west by train eg Kamakura or Mt Fuji. Loads of resteraunts of all types and price ranges in easy walking

We've stayed at this hotel for 6 nights during our trip in Japan. The hotel has a perfect location, just near the Shinjuku JR Station (3 min walking) and Shinjuku metro station (7-8 min walking).
The rooms are very clean, but a small. There is free wiried internet in the room and free WiFi at the lobby, The personal is very helpful and speaking good english. We have a wonderful breakfast (it was included in the room cost). I'll recommend this hotel for stay at Tokyo.

Very good location within walking distance from Shinjuku JR station.
Adding quietness located in uncrowded area of Shinjuku.

But semi-double is basically the same room as a single room, too small for two person if they don't really love each other so much.
You're being charged more for the extra guest staying with you, which is rather strange tradition in Japan Hotel industry.

Breakfast buffet was fine with western and Japanese traditional breakfast items.

If you don't mind the cramped space, this hotel will be fine with good location.

Room Tip: Semi-double would be rather too small for two person. Try larger room if the pricing is right. Also, try hotel's own website for promotions; breakfast package was more than worth it.

Much cleaner than I expected. Rooms are basic and small, but for the location, this hotel is very nice. The hotel is very easy to find and a very short walk from shinjuku station. There are 3 washing machines and three dryers available for use in the basement floor garage (300 yen to wash and 100 yen to dry for 30 mins. Dryers are not so good, have to put 300 yens to get everything to dry)
