Hotel Century Southern Tower
Ranked #2 of 29 Hotels / Ryokan in Shibuya
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 26, 2014

The Century Southern Tower hotel is within spitting distance of Tokyo's busiest railway station - Shinjuku. Which, if you're like us, is perfect. A quick stroll to the station in the morning to take you just about everywhere your tourist heart desires, and in the evening when your feet are swollen from walking, this hotel is the closest.
On a tourist budget, we were really impressed by the value for money of the Century Southern. By booking in advance we were able to get great early bird specials, a little unusual for a hotel in the heart of Tokyo.
The hotel is in the process of renovating all the guest rooms and should be finished by the end of 2014, although most have been completed already. We had a renovated room both times we stayed, so I can't say how large the upgrade has been. The bathroom has an over tub shower with great water pressure, which is excellent after a long days walking. The room has some nice touches like the heated mirror in the bathroom for example, and the comfy chaisse lounge for flopping onto, plus the international power plug just in case you forgot your adapter which all make for a more premium feel. The furnishings are warm to the touch and rooms have a cozy feel, not cold and clinical like some.
Sounds great, so why not 5 stars? The hotel has two areas that I didn't enjoy - the Lobby has a bar area for drinks, nibbles etc, but each time I frequented this Lobby bar I came out feeling more annoyed than relaxed - being made to wait 5minutes for a table while I could see 4 were empty smacks of self importance and I never really got a feeling of being made welcome. My other little gripe is the hotel has a very strict 2pm check-in time, no ifs, no buts. This is a hard one when you fly in from Europe, when most flights land very early in the morning. While it was annoying, it doesn't detract from the value, location and room quality/feel. Most important question, would I return - its an unequivocal yes.

Location of this hotel was excellent. Within 5 minute walk to Shinjukyu Station.Room was quite large by most Japanese standards with good amenities and was very clean.
Unfortunately we found the hotel to be more for business people than for leisure travellers. Staff at reception do not smile at all and we had a very hard time trying to ascertain where to locate anywhere to get information on tourist attractions in Tokyo.
Only ate at the Chinese restaurant. Very very expensive and not very good. Give this one a miss.

We enjoyed this hotel. The location is really convenient if you go by NEX or airport limousine. It is from 22nd floor up. You can view the city of Tokyo from your room. The room is spacious enough. You get what you pay for. The staff at the reception desk were very friendly and can speak good English. Highly recommend this hotel if you want to stay in Shinjuku.

There isn't much to add to others views about this hotel, except it has everything you need for business or leisure, all at a fair price. The rooms are large for Japanese standards, and well maintained. The services -- e.g. laundry, requests for information, et al. -- are efficient. Shiseido products in the bathrooms. The little convenience store tucked away in the corner of the lobby area has everything you need. The station is only 2 minutes away.

I congratulated myself for chancing on this hotel. Very central location. 5 mins to everything, train station, shopping takashimaya etc. Had a great corner king deluxe which fitted a couple and a kid very comfortably especially by Japanese room size standards. Only thing was not that easy to find breakfast early in the morning.

I just came back from Hotel Century Southern Tower for 5 nights. We were assigned to 26 floor and it's beautiful view! The room size is very standard for Westerners and clean. The amenities is fabulous...It's a Shiseido products and smell lovely. This hotel is very central located and easy access to the Shinjuku train/metro system. The staffs are very polite and helpful but very limited with English.

Tips:

1.If you are travel with multiple or a lot of luggages then you might considered to take the Airport Limousine. It is not fun to wheel the luggages through the crowds and lot of stairs and escalators in the train/subway station. The airport limousine will stop infront of the Century Southern Tower hotel. You can purchase your return ticket at the hotel front desk. The cost is Y3,000 each way.

2.There were a coin launtry facility across the street. It is located in the basement/garage of the Shinjuku Sunroute Plaza Hotel. Walk down to the parking garage in the basement and the laundry room is on your right hand side. It's cost Y300 per load (included detergent)

3. Do buy the one day train/subway pass (About USD10) at the kiosk. This pass will give you access to all Toei and Tokyo Metro Lines. This will also allow you to go pretty much major spot in Tokyo. (See map)

4. Do visit the Tokyo Skytree. Make sure pay extra USD10 to go all the way to the top of the observation area. Don't be cheap and you will regret for not doing it!

i stayed here may 2013 for 9 nights. i chose this hotel in part because i had a golf bag and wanted a hotel that was a stop on the limousine bus (just a bus to us americans) route. it was between CST and the washington hotel. just couldnt bear the thot of being in the teeny offerings at the other hotel so i splurged and paid 1.5X for room that was 1.5X bigger. it was still tiny by us standards but it was nice, clean, modern and comfy. the views were spectacular. bathroom prob huge by japanese standards. i just absolutely loved the warm water spraying toilet.

100's of eating places, department stores, 24hr convenience stores, starbucks, and the main jr shinjuku station are within a 2-5min walk. lets not also forget the citi atm machine right across the street! very very convenient indeed!!

the staff spoke very good english and were courteous and helpful as i would expect in any japanese hotel.

i would stay here again for sure if i brought my golf clubs, and if i didnt, for the right price. i think i paid about 150usd on some special offer.
