My brother and I had the pleasure of touring for 11 days with Mac on our first visit to Japan. I can tell you that he is a gem of a human being, incredibly bright, perfectly enthusiastic, customer obsessed, uber passionate about Japan, extremely gifted as a guide and ridiculously hilarious. I did a LOT of research before we selected Mac, so I can attest that he is hands down the very best choice for maximum value. I estimate that are trip would only have been 10% as fabulous without him. We haven’t even left Japan and we are already texting friends telling them to book early and plan their trips around Mac’s availability.
Mac, thank you for being our super guide, companion and friend!!! Miss you already
Mac was awesome! First of all, he was easy to communicate with and he gets back to you quickly. I knew within our first few emails we would get along great and I was right. He is extremely well educated and it is reflected in his knowledge of Tokyo. He knows so much more than a "tour book". His interpersonal skills put you immediately at ease and he weaves in the history of the sites and city without any of it being boring. We brought our two teenage sons and they loved the tour (hard to excite teenagers). He brought life to the shrines and temples which made the visits so much more interesting. He knew the fish market in and out all brought us down all the little alleys we would have never ventured down. My son is still talking about the sushi restaurant we went to and three days later we had to try to find the little couple that served shaved ice to us on our day with Mac. We found it about an hour later! We went to the Swallows game and although we are not baseball people the game was so much fun and everyone we met was so friendly. I am a huge history buff so it was an added bonus for me since Mac knows so much about the history of the city.
On our last day his colleague Danielle brought us to Sumo practice and I have to say that was unbelievable. I thought it may be a bit boring as did my boys since they had to stay silent for 90 minutes but the dedication these guys bring to the sport is really amazing. Danielle was a great guide getting us there on time, acting as a liaison and the wrestlers loved her "I love Sumo" shirt.
Mac and Danielle, THANKS SO MUCH!! We had a great trip and you really know how to run a successful, but most importantly fun business!
Sure you could buy a guide book and barely scratch the surface of a few of the "Top Ten Must-See Highlights", spending more time working out how to get from one place to another than getting the most of your precious and limited holiday in Tokyo and ending up eating in the places that everybody who bought that guide book is eating in...
Or you could book a tour with Maction Planet and have an unforgettable trip in one of the world's most amazing cities. Mac has lived in Tokyo for years but this hasn't dulled his enthusiasm for the city. Don't think that you will get an off the shelf trip round the usual suspects- Mac is always learning and finding out the new places to go and things to do. You will go to places you never imagined existed and eat in places you wouldn't dare to go in and your time in Tokyo will be jam packed with sights, tastes, smells and sounds that you will never forget. Even when you go to the tourist spots (which you will because they are awesome), Mac will have more information than the average guide(book) to really help you understand the Japanese history and culture to really get the most out of your visit.
If you value your leisure time, invest in a tour with Maction Planet. Great return guaranteed!!
If you are headed to Tokyo, Touring with Mac is a must. Do not bother going at all unless you book time with Mac. If he is booked, reschedule your trip to when he is available.
This was our first time traveling to Tokyo. What a great city. Mac toured us at our pace, he made sure we hit the highlights on and off the beaten path. We had many requests and needs that we wanted to hit in the area. We completed our list. We even completed the extra list, that we didn't know we wanted to hit (Mac's ideas were off the chart). I never review on Trip Advisor, but Mac was worth the time to post this review. Happy travels.
We used Mac from Maction Planet at the start of our time in Tokyo in March 18. Mac is a westerner who has lived in Japan for over 10 years. This background gives him his key strength of being able to relate Japanese and Western cultures. His tours combine the level of knowledge of a city you only get from living in a place for a while with the enthusiasm for the city you only see in someone who has actively chosen to live in a place.
Our time with Mac was at the start of our Tokyo trip and we asked Mac to focus on food and drink of the city. Of course, we took in shrines, temples and neon lights too, and learned way more about them than you ever would from reading a guide book but the food and drink was the focus for us and Mac truly excelled here. We visited "local" places with Japanese-only menus we would never have found without him, let alone been able to enjoy. We were often the only westerners in the place and we enjoyed a great Izakaya bar in Shibuya, plenty of beer bars around the place, snacks and street food and ramen. He took us into the inner market at the vast Tsukiji fish market - theoretically open to the public but you have to know how to get in through the maze of stalls and whizzing trucks and carts to see the best of it. Naturally Mac does! We then had easily the best sashimi I've ever had in a wee place in the outer market area.
Mac gave us a great start to our time in Tokyo and the confidence to head out on our own and enjoy this great city. I think the difference is that Mac is not just a "Content Provider" sort of tour guide who shows you the sights and reels off a few names and dates, he really is a "Context Provider" who explains why things are as they are. If you've seen a lot of tour guides in action you will truly appreciate this difference.
We traveled with a large group of us, we had two amazing days with Mac. We saw some great areas which were not on anyone's radar! The second day we did an the inner fish market tour, which was a highlight of the trip!
Mac was the best tour guide I have experienced, highly recommend!
