“Fantastic find!”
Reviewed December 15, 2013

After spending three days wandering into random restaurants all over Tokyo, my husband and I decided to plan a meal with the help of TripAdvisor. This restaurant is on a back street, so we grabbed a taxi to go the ~1 mile, but we would never have found it otherwise.

We visited on a Sunday, at about 6:30 pm, so we were able to walk in, but it would probably be a good idea to make a reservation, the restaurant is fairly large by Tokyo standards, but it got very busy!

The service was great, the prices were extremely reasonable--check out their website for the menu. We got the mini sashimi sampler, it had about 8 different types of fish and was delicious. The house special tuna spare ribs were outstanding, and as we watched other diners, everyone ordered almost the same thing as we did--it was that good!

The atmosphere was great, laid back with Jack Johnson on the radio (reminded us of being home in Hawaii) and a good english menu. We sat there for over two hours drinking sake and enjoying ourselves.

If you are looking for a restaurant near Shibuya, don't miss this one!

“Wonderful restaurant for fish”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

I was taken here by a client, he'd lived in Tokyo for a number of years and this was one of his favourite haunts, I can see why. Wonderful choice of fish dishes, mixture of cooked and sushi, all delicious. Liked the informal nature of the place with the pictures everywhere. Only downside was only one toilet for men and women, minor gripe though. Great value to for Tokyo.

“Great food in Tokyo is not always expensive”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

Kaikaya shows one of the common misconceptions about Tokyo - that it's an expensive city. It's really not that hard to find amazing food for much less you'd pay say in Paris or New York. And I'm not talking about the 3$ noodles. We started with sashimi assortment that was not really exceptional but everything else was, including the atmosphere and hospitality. Their "tuna spareribs" house special was just perfect and by far the best thing we tried. Wine was also decent and inexpensive. Stayed for 4 hours and payed less than 100$ for 2 including a bottle of wine.

“If you are in Tokyo, an absolute must visit... Amazing food”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

So my colleagues in Tokyo took me to this place and what an amazing place to eat. Firstly, the staff make you feel really welcome. I dont think I would have found it on my own as its off the beaten track and easy to miss but so glad we did. First off, great atmosphere. It was really packed and a lot of people turned away as there were no tables. The staff were so friendly and explained everything we ordered. The food was equally great. We ordered a tasting type menu and the sushi, sashimi and tuna ribs absolutely brilliant. Fresh and well presented. Good range of Sake to pick from too. Huge sushi fan anyway but this is right up there with the best Ive been to not just in Japan.

On leaving, the staff gave me and my fellow Brit colleague loads of postcards and badges as a momento too. We booked a table for 9 so its great for a group too.

Cant wait to go back again.

“Hidden treasure”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

Food was amazing the highlight was the assorted sashimi platter so fresh and great value. Staff spoke a little bit of English which was enough the restaurant is hidden down an alley but it stood out. Good restaurant to take kids and enjoy the Japanese cuisine.
