“Affordable Place in Central Tokyo”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

I came across this small lovely minshuku by chance and never regretted staying here. It is managed by Naoko and she stays at the minshuku as well.
Since I travelled alone, I booked a room for a single person and it is a lovely tatami room with its own private bathroom. No breakfast but it's ok cuz there are plenty of eateries (including McDonalds) nearby. You need to vacate your room from 10am till 4pm daily and there is a curfew from 12am till 6am. If you are leaving early, do let them know.
The room comes with the standard toiletries and you can get free shampoo from the counter. The staffs were helpful and Naoko helped me with my laundry as well, which I greatly appreciate :)
I had good sleep every night but the highlight was Naoko's great hospitality. I will definitely be back to this place the next time I am in town :)

Directions to the minshuku:
- Take the JR Shinjuku South exit (please do not take "new south exit")
- The moment you come out of this exit, you will see a pedestrian crossing with traffic lights. Cross that and turn right.
- Walk straight and you will reach the next pedestrian crossing. Cross that and turn left.
- After you turn left, you will see McDonalds ahead of you. Walk towards McDonalds.
- After McDonalds, there will be a street on your right. Turn right and you will see a row of vending machines on your left and keep straight.
- By then, you would see this minshuku's name in green and white.

Hope this helps!

Room Tip: Naoko speaks very good English and there was this older gentleman who can speak good English as well...

I just liked this place so much! I have no other hotel experience in Tokyo to compare, but I think this place was worth for the money I paid.

The only small uncomfortable thing was during my stay, that they have no wifi in the rooms, only in common areas. After a long day, with sightseeing and lot of walking it would be great just use it from the room.

The staff was so-so, some on them are really nice, some porter was not really, but still helpful, when I asked for something.

We booked 2 rooms for just one night since we need to depart very early on the highway bus from the Shinjuku Bus Terminal. Kubo San, the proprietor was very kind in assisting to make the highway bus ticket reservation for us. It was a pity that we didn't manage to meet face to face to thank him properly.

The minshuku was in an excellent location. Barely 5 minutes walk from the South Exit of the Shinjuku JR Station. Previous review mentioned that the lane was very dark at night. We 4 ladies or even 2 at times didn't feel insecure at all walking back at night.

We left our luggage prior to check-in since we got to the minshuku before their check-in time. By the time we returned the luggage were all in our rooms. The rooms were cosy and comfortable. Windows could be opened wide. Good to have attached bathroom and toilet. However, no shampoo provided...

Previous reviews mentioned free wifi in public area but was informed otherwise at check-in.

The only negative thing I can say was the person at the reception (not Kubo San) was a bit surly. No welcoming smiles nor greetings. It was quite disconcerting... Otherwise everything was great and I would definitely return again.

the staff at this hotel very very unhelpful. They queried and charged us more for our stay even though we had booked a double room. They wouldn't help us with local inquiries about where to go what to see etc, and were just unfriendly. The location for the hotel is good as it's central, and the rooms are very clean, but very basic tatami rooms that were not worth the amount we paid. I wouldn't go back

I stayed in this ryokan for 7 days , from the moment I stepped trough the door untill the moment I left , I had a EXCELLENT stay!!!!
This is a hidden gem in downtown Tokio. It`s between the Shinjuku Sunroute plaza Hotel & Park Hyatt Tokio and 5 min walk from JR Shinjuku station with a direct 1,5hrs train ride from Tokio Narita Int.Airport.
Close to the Ryokan you have 7-eleven,MC Donalds,Starbucks ,Tea shop, coin Laundry,Takashimaya Dept store,GWK Money Exch. etc etc etc.
There is FREE WI-FI in the Ryokan just select Sakura_cookie.
The Room is basic but clean and with a tv , telephone, Yukata, small bathroom with toilet, shower (private use),
You get Room cleaning everyday, for that you need to leave the Ryokan by 10.00am untill 16.00 pm, but during the day you can come back to
put maybe some shopping bags , back in to your room.
The Reception staff is under the care of the owner, she peaks English excellent, she can arrange a bike if you want.
She can also give good recommendations about the area and give restaurant tips and information. She knows the area very well.
There is no breakfast offerd , but dont worrie there is a lot of food around to bay around the ryokan.
The also have free maps and a direction card to get back to the ryokan with contact details.
You can pay in cash ( Yen only ) or with Credit Card for exmpl. VISA.
there are 4 floors in the ryokan , I stayed on the first floor.

I travelled many times in Japan, but this must be realy one of the best city ryokans i stayed in well travelling on a budget.
the room cost from + 6,500Yen, and it`s on the same location as the Shinjuku sunroute Plaza hotel is for exmpl. which cost a lot more !!!!!
I realy can HIGHLY RECOMMEND you to stay here. It`s a nice and clean and safe ryokan on a GREAT location with English speaking staff
Which will go out of there way to make your stay as pleasant and memorable experience as only japanese people can do.

Directions:
Get off at JR Shinjuku station, Exit via South Exit , cross pedestrian right in front of you , turn right and go downhill to the first trafic light
from your left eye corner you can see the MC Donalds, cross the pedestrian and walk towards the Mc Donalds on your right hand, then turn right into the first street after you passed the mc donalds, there are some vendor machines on your left hand sice when you go into the street, then pass the 24hr coin parking lot, when you look up to your left you now see the back of the Shinjuku Sunroute Plaza Hotel (yellow building) then you see a big green bord and there is it....you have arrived.

my friend and i went on a trip to Tokyo for the first time and we wanted to experience the traditional room setting, i.e. ryokan without compromising the visit to Tokyo itself. hence, after doing all the homework and researching, i finally came across Keiunsou.

this small hotel/inn is just about 5 minutes walk away from Shinjuku south exit. despite losing our way because of the directions given by another website, we managed to find our way thanks to Google maps. the correct way is to exit by Shinjuku south exit, cross the traffic light right in front of the station, turn right and walk straight until you see Yoshinoya. Cross the traffic light, turn left and walk all the way. you will pass by Macdonalds and a ramen shop. once at ramen shop, turn into the small alley and you will reach Keiunsou within 3 mins! the alley is dark at night (there's a smoking corner, but really, the people there are harmless), so ladies might not be comfortable with this, but you could always do a 100m sprint back to the hotel :P

we finally reached Keiunsou at about 730pm. the reception lady was really friendly and we had two staff helping us to carry our heavy luggage up the stairs. Keiunsou is located in an office-like building with no lifts, hence you might want to request for level 1 rooms should you have any mobility problems.

we didnt book the room with breakfast, hence wasnt sure how the food is like at the hotel. even though the reception had different staff everyday (we stayed for 5 nights), they were really helpful when you ask for directions and recommendations.

room was just right for the two of us, and the futons were really comfy! the room's aircon is equipped with a heater too! room service was superb, as our futons were always made when we came back. ohh, and you gotta vacate the room between 10am to 4pm for room service.

lovers of green tea, rejoice, as there is a flask of green tea every day!
