“Private rooms are alright”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

We stayed in august 2012 in a private room. The bigger room was taken and we were told by the staff the smaller room is VERY small, but we booked in anyway. The room was indeed small, just enough room to sleep in but no room for your bags. The facilities were clean. We never used the shared kitchen. The location was great, nice neighborhood where we had some of the best skewers ever! Shinjuku is easily reached by the subway. If you are just looking for room to sleep in and do not expect much else, we think this is good enough. It's cheap and conveniently located. You do have to have a bit of luck with the other guests, as it can be noisy.

The location is really good, this is 7 min walk from station, one stop from the Shinjuku, Tokyo also I would recommend go and visit the closest public bath which is absolutely awesome. Price is very atractive, staff are ok. I must admit Yadoya has the smallest ever rooms that I've slept slept in however if you are planing stay all the day out and you are not very much picky about that don't heists, value for money is pretty rewarding. Also close by is small kind of market where you can buy at lower price newest camera lenses and all sorts photo equipment, it is small replica of Shinjuku with tones of this kind of shops (like Yodobashi camera end so on). You can have decent and very tasty food near by as well. In overall the place is ok, extremely small rooms and bathroom, common area shabby but kept clean. Also you will get a map and advices how to get to the place you want. Bear in mind tokyo is not an easy place, can be very much overwhelming plus notice among pedestrians literally nobody speaks english.

It's cheap, and the room and facilities are fine for the price. Bedsheets are clean. But the other guests are unpleasant, and atmosphere is lousy. Wish I were somewhere else. Should have stayed at New Koyo.

Yadoya Guesthouse it's self is near Nakano station & easy to find, but Yadoya Suzushiro A (we stayed there) is more near to Higashi Nakano station
We had no much complain, everything was ok:
Nice price, calm neighborhood, near to mart, locker + room key facilities, not too noisy rule at night
The annoyed one only the water heater adjustment (you can easly get COLD or HOT water, but very hard to get warm one) and there is a mattras bug in "tatami style" room

Room Tip: If you want to avoid (tatami) bug, better you choose bed level style And ask for room heater in adv...

Even thought the English-speaking staff was very nice, friendly and helpful, this was one of the worst hostels I have ever stayed in and the absolute worst in Japan. It was more like something you'd find in India. The tiny delapidated kitchen/common room was a joke, the overcrowded tiny, tight and smelly dorm room was even worse, and the staff hours ridiculous (they were only there between 10 AM and 8 PM). The whole place should be condemned, torn down and rebuilt. I am very surprised that the city would allow such a sweatshop-like guesthouse to function in a place like Japan.

Stayed there a night and decided to go elsewhere.
I stayed at tons of hostels oall over the world and this one is one of the worst. They even expect you to check out the NIGHT BEFORE if you have a flight earlier the next day coz the staff doesnt even wake up until 10am!
If you checkout the night before, which they never told us until it was too late, then you must give them the key as well the night before. This means that you must arrive at the hostel early evening coz the close at 10pm and open 10am. Dont expect to go out late anywhere the night before you leave becuase you will be locked oit as the staff goes to bed early. IDIOTIC POLICY!
The place is so crammed and tiny. Kitchen can only fit 3 people and they only have one crappy computer for everyone. A lot of the staff is VERY RUDE especially a smaller guy from Taiwan. He was the worst.
They dont tell you it even opens at 10am then only tell you that you must check out then
I seen three coupkes waiting to checkout earky and they had to wait until 10am. They had early airline tickets around 1am but they wanted their key deposit back which is a RIDICULOUS 3000YEN which is like $40 and its a crap hostel
You can tell the owner is cheap by the quality of facilities and workers. They serve NO food whatsoever so do not expect breakfast there. They kitchen also smells terrible!!!
Location is also NOT that great you have to walk 20min to the subway station and you cant get to Shinjuku or any other main areas on foot
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!

While the owners are very friendly and helpful, this is one of the most minimalistic hostels I have ever stayed in. Sure, the location is great when wanting to explore Nakano and Shinjuku, but these areas can be reached from other sides of the city (like Asakusa) where there are more hostel options to choose from, for basically the same price. The kitchen is teeny, no more than 4 people could fit in it. The 8 bed mixed dorm is so small, it should really be used for a 4 bed dorm, max! Half the lockers also are a real struggle to access, and the locks have bent so it is really hard to get open and shut. The room also has little ventilation, which means it is really stuffy (and smelly) in the mornings. It is also very dark. The beds are so tightly packed that you are separated by a piece of plastic, which is uncomfortable if you do not know the other travellers. Bathrooms are sufficient though and kept clean.
Basically, there are many other accomodation options for this price in Tokyo. While Yadoya is friendly, it is uncomfortably small and tight to stay more than 1 night.
