Gonpachi is the kind of restaurant to go with friends and share some of their delicious "yakimono" (grilled specialities). Try "Tanuki" (stuffed ground chicken in shitake mushroom) and "Gindara" (misso glazed black cod). To drink, there are several options: sake, wine, champagne, beer... Take your time and enjoy!

Friendly wait staff, fast service, great atmosphere. Free soup/salad at the bar during lunch time. I had an eel dish that was cooked to perfection.

One of the employees was fluent in English which was a big comfort to me, although there are several that can speak some English (enough for you both to understand one another).

For tourists that want to know how to get here by metro: get off at the Roppongi Hills station. Follow signs for Exit 2/West End. I ended up getting out of the complex at the entrance of the Grand Hyatt (TV-Asahi Street). I made a right and walked down to Roppongi Crossing. At the crossing, I made a left onto Roppongi Street and walked up to Gaien-Nishi Street. Make a right onto Gaien-Nishi street and Gonpachi will be right in front of you.

Well, foremost you go there to absorb the feeling of being in the shooting location of a Tarantino movie (imagine Uma Thurman in the schoolgirl fight right there) - so watch the movie first. A lot of celebrities seem to go there too (based on the pictures on the walls). Ah yes, the food. Good, not spectacular but good. Service very efficient, speak English (because it is a tourist place).
It is a big hall, not for a romantic date, but best for small/medium group of friends or business people to wind down. Will be happy to go again.

My husband and I have eaten here on two occasions in the past six months. It is a fun place to go and the food is fine. I've mostly had the yakitori and yakiniku dishes (grilled meats) and grilled vegetables. The ingredients seem to be fresh and the quality ok. It is a party atmosphere with plenty of Westerners around (unusual in Tokyo). We took our two children once and it was very comfortable and fun for them (6 and 9 years). It is much too loud and lively for a romantic dinner. If you just want to drink and laugh with your partner, it's great for a date.

You can get better quality for less but if you liked Kill Bill and you want to be around gaijin, then Gonpachi is great! Try the grilled Ginko nuts!

Get a table at the bar if it's just 2-3 of you -- it's more fun.

Call them for reservations -- they speak English well.
