“Great hotel in Tokyo!”
Reviewed March 14, 2013 via mobile

Our cruise ended in Kobe, and we took a bullet train to Tokyo. After a short train ride from Tokyo station, we arrived at Ebisu station. From there, a two minute taxi ride to The New Sanno Hotel. Ater signing in parents at the security check point, we were greeted by gracious front desk agents. The hotel itself was beautiful, and the rooms spacious. My parents who are non-military were pleasantly surprised by the service and amenities the hotel offered. Fitness center, pool, casino, bar, NEX and many restaurants just to name a few.
Pros: downtown Tokyo, security, amenities, restaurants, service of employes, etc
Cons: had to leave upon checkout
Stayed 4-7 Mar 2013
Note: Natasha the cat @ security check point was super sweet!

We have stayed here several times and always enjoy our stay. It is a great location and close to the subway. The food is always good and the service is great. The rooms are nice and very clean. The staff is very helpful and helped us find events around the city. They have a small exchange and a few other little stores, which are so nice to have for tylenol or souvenirs. We will definitely be back.

We stayed here July 2012. Stevie made a fine choice by wanting to stay here. Although the hotel is in southwest Tokyo, the easy acces to the metro/subway by no means limits you to any part of Tokyo whatsoever. This was our first time in Japan and it won't be the last. The hotel has amenties such as a pool, restaurants, gift/retail stores, on-site bar, and even a place for slot gamblers. We felt very safe here with the security guard at the front entrance but we would have felt safe even without the guard as well since Tokyo's crime rate was virtually nil. The Hiroo area had many fine restaurants, yes even a McD's and KFC that presented fast food in a quality-like presentation-just like the pictorial advertisements. Explore the area around the hotel like you would the rest of Tokyo and you won't be let down....

Considering the very expensive Tokyo hotel alternatives, the New Sanno is a terrific value. The rooms are more than adequate, and are kept very clean. Nice touches include free razor, toothpaste, etc. AFN and American TV stations are in the room, which is unusual for Tokyo. The food in the hotel is very good and reasonably priced, as are the drinks in the bar. The staff is bilingual and very helpful. Concierge services are also excellent; can help you with airport runs, Disney tickets, skiing, etc. The hotel is located 3 blocks from Tokyo Metro and JR Line, and it is very easy to get anywhere you'd need to go. Wireless internet is generally fine, also has wired in room. If you find yourself with a couple of free days in Tokyo, you will be very pleased with the New Sanno.

I've stayed in much nicer hotels in Tokyo, but between the airport shuttle and the in-house stores, it was nice to a bit of Americana, especially as I was headed into and out of theater. The rooms are small by American standards, but actually pretty large by Japanese standards, especially if you compare them to hotels out of the center of Tokyo. The service is good and the resturants are decent. The location isn't bad.

Room Tip: Away from the side street.

it looks like the most you can pay for the nicest room, the japanese suite, is $100 per night, and you just can't get a room like this in a hotel like this in this area for anywhere near that amount, from what I can tell; in fact, it looks like in that price range you'd have to stay in a capsule hotel or something like that. The New Sanno is a very beautiful property with lots of the amenities you'd expect on a US military installation, such as the APO, navy exchange, bank, etc. Also the restaurants are pretty nice, especially the japanese restaurant.

The service is great, all the employees speak great English and are very friendly and helpful, especially with tips on getting around to convenience stores and restaurants in the area, etc. The place is clean and quiet, and the japanese suite is really a neat experience that you obviously aren't going to get in other countries (it's got the traditional tatami mat flooring and traditional futon bedding that they come make up for you on the floor every night). The location is outstanding; not only is the New Sanno conveniently located near a subway stop and lots of great bars and restaurants and stores and so on, but it's location near the center of Tokyo makes it very easy to get to some of the really amazing spots in the city; Shibuya and the Harajuku station (to get to the Meiji Shrine) are particularly close but you can get to many of the major attractions easily via the subway system from the nearby station.

The bottom line is, if you're a service member and haven't been to Tokyo, this is definitely the place you want to stay and you'll probably be impressed, especially if you've ever stayed at the Dragon Hill Lodge in Yongsan in Seoul. Also note, they tend to be completely booked for weekends way in advance, so if possible try to stay during the week; you may want to call them directly rather than attempting communication via email, but they are very helpful over the phone.

Room Tip: the japanese suites are really neat; that's what I would recommend.

We enjoyed a five night stay here right after New Year's. The double room was comfortable and plenty spacious enough for two adults and one toddler. We didn't expect to utilize them but the in-house eateries ended up being welcome respites after trekking around Tokyo with a two year old all day, when we were too tired to head back out for dinner. The burgers and deli salads at Hero's really hit the spot. Eating out nearby, there are several noodle shops and a great okonomiyaki place right down the street, across the Tengenji-bashi intersection. The pool was great too, a great way to spend an hour before naptime.

Overall, it was a great place to stay - clean, roomy, nicely furnished, good location - with awesome rates for anywhere, let alone the most expensive city in the world! Definitely our first choice for a return trip.
