“Functional in a good way”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is functional and I mean that is a most positive way. It never dares to glimpse into the precipice that could lead to having a personality. It functions as a hotel should.

The staff a friendly and efficient and don't try to build relationships with the patrons. I love this. It annoys me when staff try to be your friend. Brilliant.

The breakfasts are very western and bland. However, take a short walk and you can fine numerous noodle shops where you can stand and eat.

The hotel is five minutes walk from three train lines. The trains here are really not as confusing as everyone claims. If you can read and ask the occasional question, you will be fine.

I really liked this hotel. It is my kind of hotel. Functional!

The rooms are a little outdated here, but that is its only fault. The staff are exceptional with some English. I was quite sick while in Japan and the hotel manager sent a member of staff to the hospital with us (who spoke English) and also gave the staff member money in case our cards did not work while we were there. I can not recommend them enough for their customer service. The location is also brilliant, right near Tokyo tower and many train stations, very good hotel

This is quite a good hotel and has some very good points but also some bad points. We stayed for two nights on December 30th and 31st. We booked a double and a triple room. Good Points: The location within a short walk of tokyo tower with very good access to JR line, Metro and monorail proved to be fantastic and there was a few good rather cheap restaurants near by. The triple room was excellent (non smoking) and plenty of room for three older kids with plenty of gear. The staff at the hotel were exceptional and couldn't do enough to help us. The bathrooms were a good size for Tokyo and the water was hot and facilities were generally in good shape. The bad point was that our twin room was supposed to be non smoking but had rather a strong smell of stale smoke. Not enough to get too upset about but nevertheless detracted from the stay. The breakfast was OK and convenient but rather expensive. Overall a good hotel for the price p[aid which by tokyo standards was reasonably good.

The good was the location and the moderate cost. The staff were quite exceptional - helpful almost telepathetic and knowledgable, Thank you Mr Ichinomiya and Ms Akimoto. Breakfast was good value also.
The not good was the need to turn the A/C off and open the window to expel the heat and the 2nd hand smoke. The room were quite small.

Warning - Japan is not a smoke free zone, although significant changes are being made.
A non-smoking room on a smoking floor does not work, especially at a temperature of about 26 'winter' degrees.
A non-smoking booth next to a smoking one at Japanese restaurants in three different cities left an unfortunate long forgotton taste.

Room Tip: I suppose it depends on which part of the wall you want to look at. Don't know if any had views.

Stayed here in October 2012 and we found the place to be well located for Daimon station (Asakusa and Oedo lines) and Hamamatsucho station ( Yamanote line). The hotel was quiet, the staff were helpful and the room was large by Tokyo standards. There were lots of restaurants nearby on the way to the station. The only downside was that the decor was somewhat tired, but this didn't really concern us. We found the hotel shuttle from Narita airport wouldn't leave the airport till 6.15, when we'd arrived at 5.00. So instead we caught the airport limousine bus to Tokyo Prince Hotel which is nearby. As with most Japanese hotels they have no WiFi, but you can access the internet via LAN.

I just stayed for four nights at the Shiba Park during a business trip to Tokyo. I have stayed there a number of times in past years, but the last few trips to Tokyo my hosts had lodged me in larger, newer, and more expensive places. I was reminded on this trip that the Shiba Park is a good bargain. Rooms are spacious, though austere in decor. Good internet access, comfortable bed, plenty of hot water in the shower, all at about 40% of the cost, or less, of the newer business hotels like the ANA Intercontinental. What else is really needed? Location is a bit away from the Imperial Palace/Maranouchi/Ginza district, but only a quick subway or taxi ride to reach them. Neighborhood is a diverse mix of office buildings, residences, small restaurants (even Starbucks and La Pain Quotidien), shrines, and a large temple. Tokyo Tower is nearby, as are several subway stop. Only weak spot is the food: an expensive 2-star French restaurants, standard Japanese and Chinese places, and an overpriced breakfast buffet.

Room Tip: Business rooms on the 7th floor of the annex have access to a lounge with computer, printer, and rat...

The hotel is located in a business area of Tokyo, quite close to Daimon metro station. It's easy to find and the front office staff all speak good English.

My single annexe room was small-ish, but as I came to Tokyo to see the sights the room was not really important. The bathroom was adequate, there were tea and coffee-making facilities, the TV got the BBC World News, so nothing was lacking. There is a Family Mart store very close by which sells snacks (both hot and cold, but I'm not too keen on Unidentified Floating Objects and stuck to recognisable sandwiches) and there is a Starbucks, McDonalds and Mo's Burger if you don't want to eat Japanese food. Restaurants are everywhere; set lunches go from about 800 yen to 2000 yen, and the bento boxes looked so appetising I coulnd't see how McDonalds and their ilk got any business.

It is a short walk from the Tokyo Tower (not a pretty sight) and within easy reach of most of the must-see areas.

I wouldn't hesitate to use this hotel again - it offered a comfortable bed, good facilities, and was in a good spot. What more do you need ?

Room Tip: I'm told annexe rooms are 'better' but can't comment because I didn't see the al...
