“Very funky, very cool”
Reviewed May 8, 2005

Firstly - this place is so new that many cabbies don't know about it. Ask them to take you to Shidome and then look through the construction for the . Warning: The Royal Park Hotel is next door, and a not-so-easy walk across the construction.

So perhaps it was because we stayed here the days preceeding Golden Week - but this place was quiet. Very quiet. And that just added to the funky/cool/mysterious/quirky feel of the place.

However, I absolutely loved this place. The lobby was gorgeous, the staff extremely sharp, and everything was in place. If you're looking to hit the Tsukiji market first thing, this hotel is an easy walk to the auctions.

I would definitely say that this hotel is a rising star in Tokyo - once the Shiodome area comes into it's own and the construction is done. Top notch, on par with the Imperial, ANA, Keio, New Otani - and just maybe one day the Park Hyatt.

My wife (30yo) and I (36yo) were both first-time visitors to Tokyo and plumped for this hotel after the positive comments we read on here. Without doubt we can add to those as this was a superb place to stay and we would recommend it to anyone.

It benefits from being very modern and chic and at around £120 was definite value for money. True, the room wasn't that big but as long as you go there expecting that, it's not a problem at all. The fancy toilet (two levels of seat warmth!), flat-screen TV and wonderful views more than compensate. We paid an extra £5 a night for a view of Tokyo Tower and it was worth the extra for those "this was the view from our hotel room window" camera shots.

The Shiodome area (full of modern skyscrapers) takes a few walkings to fully get your bearings but all the towers are worth a visit - especially for cheap eating. We eat in respectable places for under £30 a night (between us that is!) which certainly exploded the myth that Tokyo is the most expensive place in the world. Quite simply, it is not.

Shiodome also has its own train station which is good for taking the underground to other parts of the City. You can also get the monorail from there to Odaiba, crossing the elegant Rainbow Bridge and getting a good look back to the City.

Shinbashi station is also a 5-10min walk and that serves plenty of destinations on the overground JR Train. You can also take the train from here to Tokyo station (just two stops away) and catch the Shinkansen (Bullet Train). We did that when we had a day-trip to Kyoto.

It definitely pays to carry a map of the train lines with you (the hotel will sort you out with one if you haven't got a guidebook) as at some stations the maps are only printed in Japanese. When this happened to us we just asked one of the staff who were all very helpful, taking us to the ticket machine, telling us how much to pay and even wishing us a "nice day!"

We had breakfast in the hotel a couple of times (a tad expensive for £12.50 each) and it was a good way to start the day - cereals, fruit, bread, egg, bacon etc (there's plenty of time to eat Japanese food later in the day!).

Finally, the staff were all overwhelmingly polite, spoke good English and made our stay a memorable one.

For the same money, I'd be amazed if you could find anywhere as good as this!!!!!

We stayed at the Park hotel twice whilst in Tokyo for a total of nine nights. The location is exceptional, Ginza, Tskujii and shimbashi station all within convenient walking distance. We only had breakfast at the hotel once and found ample other options for western style breakfast in the immeadiate vicinity of the hotel (important after several japanese breakfasts). The convenience of Shimbashi station cannot be stressed highly enough. If you are not in tokyo on business and wish to do day trips the proximaty to Tokyo station (two stops) is extremely convenient. We used both the Ginza metro line and the Yamonote Train line extensively. The Shiodome area is modern and fascinating but the area around shimbashi station is terrific also and not mentioned in any guide books. We spent many nights in the restaurants and bars around Shimbashi station and met many Japanese who would later become friends.

The hotel is well designed and offers all the modern amenities you would expect. The staff are courteous and could not be more helpful. The views from reception are remarkable. Would not hesitate to reccomend it and would stay again.

Park Hotel near the Shio Dome metro station is definitely "boutique hotel" hip. GREAT lobby atrium and stylish restaurant. BUT the windows don't open and it's a *little* out of the way. Close to the fish market and just a few minutes from the metro stop, but in an area of mostly business towers. Staff speaks excellent English and is really excited to suggest restaurants etc. Joggers: out-and-back 3 mile loop around the park where Tokyo Tower is situated, which is good since there isn't a gym on site.
