“very near to JR station, with amenities nearby”
Reviewed May 18, 2009

We had a great stay at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel.

What we liked :-
- it's just 2 mins to the Shinagawa JR station
- that the breakfast coupons allow you a choice of several restaurants located within the hotel. We loved the breakfast buffet at Hapuna (Main Tower, level 1). The restaurant is very modern looking and spacious
- The Green Planet programme - 500yen vouchers per guest for each day you go without room cleaning. We stayed 6 nights, and did not ask for room-cleaning on 3 occasions - with 3 guests, we got a total of 4,500yen worth of vouchers. You can only use it a the hotel-managed convenience store - which was good enough for us for some last minute snack and gift-shopping
- for 3 persons, we took a double room (with sofa bed) in the (new) Annex Tower, on the 21st floor. Space was tight, but otherwise the room was clean and toilet amenties and accessories provided by the hotel were more than adequate - we liked the fragrance from the shampoo and body wash.

What can be improved :-
- Staff do not speak very good English, which made it difficult for me to find out the details of the Green Planet Programme In the end, the details were in a green colored form which can be found in the room.

Travel tips :-
- there's a restaurant at the Shinagawa JR station (just by the upgoing escalators) - they have menu in English. One of the lady staff speaks Mandarin.
- as you approach the station, turn right and walk along the pavement for abt 5 mins, until you 'hit' a Ramen Alley - there are several shops selling ramen (and beer, gyoza etc). Great place! There was at least one shop that had a sign indicating that they had English menu.
- as you leave the hotel, and past 7-11 store, turn right into the cluster of cafes and restaurants. Right at the end of the cluster, there's a nice yakitori restaurant. Nice! (i was with Japanese friends, so I am not sure if they have English menu).
- By the way, if you are heading to Tokyo Disneyland using JR lines (e.g. from Shinagawa), you need to make a changeover at Tokyo station for the Keiyo line, to take a train to Maihama station. It sounds convenient right? But it was quite a pain, as we realised that you need to walk 520m during the changeover!

I stayed last year in one of newly renovated double rooms on the top floors and one of the renovated twin rooms on the lower floors. I have stayed here many times before over the years and think I think it is a great place to use as your base in Tokyo.

The location is super convenient to the train station and I find the newer rooms very comfortable and nicely appointed. Yes they are small but that is only by U.S. standards.

If you sign up for a Prince Hotel Club membership (free) you can have a wonderful complimentary breakfast everyday during your stay. The Japanese food at the buffet is really yummy and a great way to start your day. The western food has less to be desired.

If you book now on a U.S. travel site the rates for this hotel are very reasonable and almost half of what you would pay on the Prince hotel site.

This enormous hotel complex is across the street from the Shinagawa Stn Takanawa exit. Polite, efficient staff. Room comfortable, clean, in good working order, and pleasant enough if nothing memorable. Typical Japanese "box" bathroom. Many restaurants and entertainment facilities onsite, although it may take a bit of looking to find everything in this huge complex. Internet access in their cafe is free if you buy a drink; coffee definitely recommended.

Stopped over in Tokyo for 2 nights on our way to New Zealand. We took the narita express to Shinigawa and saw the Prince towers rising up outside the station. We were greeted by a beautiful marble reception hall with classical music playing. We had booked a triple room in the main tower and were very pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it was. By previous reviews we were expecting a rabbit hutch, but this corner room with 3 single beds was more than ample for me, my husband, 16 year old son and our 3 huge suitcases. The bathroom was compact, but had the all singing all dancing toilet, power shower and heated mirror. A great range of complimetary toiletries too.
That evening we dined at the "Top of the Shinigawa" restaurant with views over the city from the top floor. We had drinks in the bar first as the sun went down which was wonderful. Seeing the lights of Tokyo coming to life was magical. Dinner was superb, and the service .faultless.
The next day we booked a half day tour through the hotels tour desk. Again the service was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon. On our last day we booked the limousine bus service to take us to the airport. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and we even had 3 staff members waving us off as the bus pulled away.
In summary this was a lovely clean, comfortable hotel, in a great location with wonderful staff.

Business travellers would love their stay at this hotel. The friendly nature of staff makes one feel very comfortable. Food is never a problem at this hotel - American, Chinese, Japanese, Italian etc almost all types of restaurants are located there. Entertainment is never far in a foreign place - bowling, shopping, and the all new prince cinema.. A must visit at Shinagawa prince Hotel - Epson aqua stadium.

Take the Narita Express train right to the Shinagawa train station across the street from the hotel! The Shinagawa Prince is a small city all to itself, with an internet cafe (you have to buy a drink, but it's still fairly cheap), shops and restaurants, and even an aquarium! It is conveniently located right near the Shinagawa train station (<5 minute walk) which puts you in close proximity to wherever you want to go in Tokyo. Rooms are small and simple, but clean and many have great views of the city. The staff I spoke to spoke good English. Restaurant on the top floor is pricey.

I stayed for one night and this hotel has great access to Haneda Airport (about 15 minutes on one train) and also great access to Narita Airport (about an hour on one train).

My room was in the new Annex Tower and was well worth the 11,000 yen room rate. The room was modern and although a bit small was perfectly adequate. The free internet access was fast as well.

My colleague paid a bit less and stayed in the North Tower which is all single rooms and a bit dingy to be honest.

As others have mentioned there are plenty of facilities on the hotel grounds and there is also a TGI Friday`s in the hotel next door.
