Shinagawa Prince Hotel Tokyo
Ranked #39 of 117 Hotels / Ryokan in Minato
Reviewed March 26, 2014

The Shinagawa Prince Hotel is the best spot in Tokyo. It's centrally located to most attractions and is literally across the street from the Shinagawa train station, which makes travel even easier and accessible. less than 30 minutes by train to Shibuya, Shinjuku, Akihabara and other popular stops off the Yamanote train line. There are plenty of things to do around the hotel area and plenty of tourist attractions not far from Shinagawa.

The hotel offers decent sized rooms by Japanese standards, and is well kept. It's worth the money if you can afford to stay there, definitely beats some of the small business hotels I've stayed in.

Stayed here for four nights as part of a school trip. We stayed in the Main Tower. As others have said, rooms are ridiculously small. You really only want to spent time in the room to sleep and shower as there's really no room to even walk around once your luggage is unpacked. Luckily, the hotel and the area itself makes that easy to do. The hotel complex is amazingly big and I likened it to a miniature Disneyland. On the grounds there is a two level bowling alley, a karaoke, an arcade for the kids, and a wonderful aquarium. Yes, there is actually a miniature Seaworld on premise! It's not big but it's worth a good two to three hours. With the combination of the hotel discount and the after 6PM evening discount, we only paid 2800 yen for two adults and two kids! For this, you got both a dolphin and a sealion show as well as only of those wonderful underwater tunnels where you see all the sealife swimming above you. Considering you're right in the middle of Tokyo, it's pretty damned amazing.

The location of the hotel is directly across from the JR Station. Shinagawa is on the main Yamanote line so you can easily access all the main tourist sites of Tokyo from here. However, there are not many tourists sites that I know of in Shinagawa itself. One tip. There's a great set of very nice restaurants in a business complex if you walk through the station to the other side. We had a couple of fantastic meals there.

We found this hotel to be a good hotel to base yourself in to see the sights in Tokyo. Its a short 2 minuite walk to shinigawa station where you can basically get to any where in the city. We chose to have breakfast in the "top of shinigawa" which had a awesome view of the shinigawa area.

We really only used this hotel as a place to rest our heads at night as we were busy seeing the sights in Tokyo the whole time. So if that's what your after Shinigawa is a good choice because of the location to the station.

My first time in Tokyo I basically picked something that was a good deal on Expedia and close to public transit (I was coming from Kyoto and it was on the way without needing to transfer). I do regret not knowing better and staying in Shibuya or Shinjuku (a lot more to do and see) but I didn't really know better at the time. Oh well, next time.

At any rate, the hotel is just a few steps from the Shinagawa Station and there are plenty of food and drink options nearby. The hotel itself is quite nice, very clean and the twin room (I stayed with a friend) was quite spacious by Japanese standards. Wi-Fi was extra at the time (I stayed a couple of years ago) but I believe it’s now free. The hotel was very clean, good washroom facilities, really nothing to complain about. Also, a fairly nice view (I was on the 36th floor) and the staff were courteous and helpful with more than adequate English language skills.

Would stay again if I were, for some reason, inclined to stay in that area of Tokyo and the price was right through Expedia et al., though again, would much rather go with Shibuya or Shinjuku knowing what I know now. Still, no complaints and a very nice hotel.

Room Tip: Main tower and annex are the way to go, as per others as well.

Well located for Shinagawa station
I stayed in the Annexe tower my first night ... Staff at reception were very rude and from that tower you have to walk in a mall to the main tower to find breakfast and the gym you have to walk outside and it is paying !
Stay away from this building if you are claustrophobic. The rooms and hallways are so small I spent most of my time in the lobby to get some air .
Otherwise it is clean.
As a result The second night I moved to the Sakura tower... Double the price but really worth it ! Nice staff, breakfast a gym and a normal size room.

-Very good location.
A) 15-20 mins train from Hanada Airport (if it is not broken down). alternatively need to use Tokyo Monorail and take 30-40 mins.
B) in near all major business district and one station to Shinbashi to go to Tokyo big sight exhibition.
c) Shinkansen to Osaka

-Not enough power socket for your mobile device. Bring your own power bar
- shopping is good for lady (cloth and food)
- Food around hotel is expensive, better go to shinbashi for local food.

Stayed here couple of times when on a business trip. Hotel room is ok but please pick either the Annex or Main tower. Room in the other tower is small (I call it Alcatraz). Breakfast was excellent and the main tower top floor breakfast place is far the best as the view is breathtaking. Hotel is very close to tran station and it is one of the stops if you are taking the bus from Narita Airport. Hotel is close to all shops which makes it easy to find food and there is a 7-11 just in front of it. My only complaint will be that the TV stations in the room should be in English. Everything here was translated to Japanese, even CNN....that being said I will surely stay here again when I come back to Tokyo
