Shinagawa Prince Hotel Tokyo

I stayed in the East Tower for 2 nights as I was in Tokyo for business. I've stayed at half-a-dozen Tokyo hotels but unfortunately I made a poor choice with this hotel. The room had scuffed and marked walls, there was no wifi, the bed was uncomfortable, the duvet was stained and the single bed pillow was small and lacking in substance. The other major issue were the walls which are quite thin and any noise from your neighbours easily comes through. For ¥9,000 a night (I know it's Tokyo) you will be massively disappointed. I don't mind cheap business hotels when they are actually cheap, but I won't be returning here on my next visit to Tokyo.

The location is ideal to explore Tokyo as the train station is next to the hotel along with several restaurants in and around the hotel. Walking out the north tower or the main entrance leads you to several restaurants and bars that are open quite late and serve all different kinds of food. At the entrance of the north tower there is a 7-11 and walking through the train station entrance leads to a lot of other restaurants as well as what's on the main road. There is a choice of breakfast options from western food to traditional Japanese which was plentiful in options, especially in cafe 24. We stayed in the north tower on the seventh floor and even though it was quite small the room was clean and had all the amenities that we needed for a comfortable stay.

We returned to this hotel for 1 night at end of tour after staying for 3 at the start ( see my wife's review " location and local atmosphere" below. ) This time there was no mention of extra charges , other than Wi-Fi, and we were given an executive room on 36th floor with a double bed! (Main Tower)
The view was fantastic, encompassing the Station,Shinkansen, Rainbow Bridge, Tower and Skytree!
Room was lovely , all dark browns and soft lighting. Even English on CNN this time. Fridge, nice firm bed , rocket science toilet.
Spent our last afternoon on train and subway to skytree, and returned (by accident ) on Haneda airport express that goes direct from Oshiage to Shinagawa.
We ate at Japanese buffet on ground floor ( yet another dining option) 3000 yen each, food not brilliant(maybe we ate the wrong things or in the wrong order!) but the experience was marvellous, we were only European people in there all evening, the atmosphere was buzzing and the staff were both great at their jobs and a spectacle in their own right.
Morning transfer to airport by limousine bus handled really efficiently by concierge.
Obviously didn,t experience others but we felt for location ,facilities and atmosphere this hotel would be hard to beat in its price range in Tokyo

Room Tip: The higher the better, facing the station gives the best view. If you get offered an Exec room take...

Spent 4 nights at this excellent hotel. It was located near all amenities and the train station. This was helpful as it was a JR station. The rooms are nice although somewhat on the small size. We had a view over Tokyo tower. There were many restaurants close to this hotel.

Room Tip: Book a room on a higher floor and ensure you ask for a western style bed ,,they are more comfortable...

We probably had the bigger of the rooms for a Japanese hotel in the Annex Tower which is all non-smoking.

If you plan to visit Tokyo, do yourself a favor and take the tours offered downstairs by the tour line office ( company ) and take the full day deals including lunch. It will cost about $120.00 to $170.00 US per person for the day but you never wait for lunch, it taste fantastic and is geared to tourists. I highly recommend Mt Fuji and the Tokyo City Tours but there are so many other options.

When you get back to the Hotel at night buy your Breakfast at 7/11 downstairs outside the main door. I would get fruit bowls for about $1.50 and other goodies for a very low cost.

You can take the Express Train to Shinagawa Station but if you feel overwhelmed by all those trains at the station take Bus Limousine for almost the same costs but they take different times to arrive at Shinagawa and the Bus takes you right to the doors of the Hotel.

Breakfast at the Hotel is not the conventional North American style but still good. If you want a North American Style Breakfast venture near the Outback restaurant a block or two away. Better yet the small Cafe around the corner has great Asian pastries and great coffee. You can't miss it, its right in front of the Express McDonalds outside the Hotel toward the Train Station.

Room Tip: The room I was in had a good size refrigerator compared to many others I have heard of. It also had...

Had single room in the East Tower. The room is small with a single bed, a tiny desk (just fit the laptop), a really tiny bathroom. Had a hard time drying myself with the towel in the bathroom as my hands kept banging against the walls or something. Almost like you need to tuck in the elbows & fold the arms to turn around in there, lol.

The front desk staff & concierge speaks excellent English. However, not all the restaurant wait staff speaks English. The dining choices are plentiful, from restaurant to food-court. Language is not a problem to ordering as there are plenty of visual aids.

The hotel is next to the Shinagawa train station where you can board the railway (JR lines), the bullet train and the Metro. For moving about Tokyo city itself, my opinion is that the Metro is more convenient compared to the JR lines.

The hotel is served by the Airport shuttle - one of the 1st stop from the Airport.

Room Tip: If you need a bigger room, don't choose the East wing. However, the East wing has the cheapest r...
