“Pleasent and welcoming hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2014

We had a 3 night stay at this hotel as part of a pre-cruise package. Our room was very clean and comfortable with a lovely large bathroom with tub and walk in shower. Excellent supply of toiletries. Would have liked a view of the rainbow bridge but we were unlucky on this occasion. Great sound proofing we were never disturbed by any noise. Room service very efficient and reasonable although not a great choice. Location although not brilliant they do offer a free shuttle bus to the station and the monorail is located exceptionally close with a walkway direct to the hotel. Staff very polite and helpful.

Room Tip: Request a room with view of rainbow bridge

We took the Narita Express to Tokyo train station and used the JR Yamanote line to Hamamatsucho station. The hotel is about a 5-7 minute walk from JR Hamamatsucho station. It is by the bay on a quiet street. There is a Family mart quite close to the hotel. My room had a beautiful view of the bay and was quite large - as was the bathroom. The staff was courteous and efficient. We used the concierge to make reservations on the Airport Limo. I would stay here again.

LOCATION
Is next to the monorail, which is convenient. The neighborhood has nothing, is very quiet, so you'll have to do some traveling to get something to eat. There is a convenience store in the build next door, which is, well, convenient.

SERVICE
Staff is polite, which isn't really a compliment because everyone in Japan is polite.
I tried to check in at noon, and I was told there would be an early check in charge. So I had to come back at a later hour.
I bypassed the line and went to the Ambassador check in counter, which always makes me feel uncomfortable, but this time even more so because the lady behind the counter gave me a "what the heck is this guy doing" look, and seemed only reluctantly to check me in. Why even have these carpeted Ambassador counter areas? Just for show?

FOOD
Among all the Intercontinentals I've stayed at, this one had the worst breakfast. The selection was extremely poor (compared to other ICs). Japanese breakfast was very limited. Their vegetable miso soup is awful. The western breakfast is just eggs, bacon and terrible cheap sausages. At the omelet station, the cook forgot to put in the vegetables and cheese. When I pointed that out, he just took it back and sprinkled the veggies and cheese on top of my finished omelet. Cmon dude.

ROOMS
Rooms are very nice, the bathrooms even nicer; well decorated and stocked with amenities. The view is good, but with the sun shining in, the rooms can get quite hot. The bed was very comfortable. I had an infant traveling with me, and the roll away crib they provided was a high-quality wooden one with fresh linens, unlike the crappy metal ones given at other hotels.

A Japanese gem. Until now our preferred hotels were Ballagio (Vegas) or Ritz.
Now this hotel is the best. We had the best view from any hotel of the 400 cities we've visited.
The service was amazing. I was bowed to five times before breakfast!
The shuttle takes you to an excellent and very easy to use subway system. Get the Day pass
it's about £4.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view over the bay towards the "Skytree"

Stayed for 3 nights end of June and can't find fault, everything was spot on especially the bed & pillows, such a good nights sleep despite the jet lag. I highly recommend a walk to the rainbow bridge, it's easy to get to on foot and you can walk over on the north side and cross over and walk back the south side, the views are amazing and take a camera as there a photo platform every so often on the bridge

It's all an illusion. Great service, yes. Doormen with white gloves who run to open the electric automatic doors which would have opened anyway. Amazing interior has a museum like quality to it. The bathroom was simply amazing. Our floor had restricted access so i needed to put my key into the slot just to press my floor. Which prompts the first question, How is that useful as anyone who doesn't have a room key for the upper floors would not be able to do much in the hallway anyway?

The air-conditioning was weak and did not remove the humidity from the air. I needed to shower before and after sleeping and never got a rest from the humidity of the Tokyo rainy season. A bottle of soda from the mini bar was six dollars, which was actually half the amount they charged in the lounge, if they would seat you at all. Few chairs in the lobby.

All of the restaurants were outrageously expensive. The thirty dollar breakfast buffet consisted of pancakes and waffles which sat like bricks in my stomach. The lounge upstairs charged a fee for admission and their drink prices were again over the top.

Our floor was one of the few which had complementary WiFi, which was the only perk we had. True to other luxury hotels, the more you pay the more services they fail to provide at a reasonable cost.

Room Tip: There was a constant banging overhead which might have been coming from the lounge on the 20th floor...

We stayed here on our final night in Tokyo and received an upgrade to a room with an incredible view over the bay – This was stunning both at night and in the morning.

The room was lovely, all the bells and whistles you expect to find in a hotel of this standing.

The only downsides were the distance from the subway and when we were leaving I felt that we were ushered out a little “too efficiently”, almost to the point of being rushed.

All in all, though it was a really good hotel
