After watching "Jiro Dreams of Sushi," my husband and I decided to spend a weekend in Tokyo on a mini 'culinary tour.' Though we couldn't get reservations at Sukiyabashi Jiro (we booked the trip at the last minute), we decided to try Kogaisushi based on a friend's recommendation.
We ordered the "omakase course," which is the chef's course, and squeezed into the restaurant. It only seats ~10 people, so I highly recommend you make reservations if you want to dine here.
After some soup, we started with a delicious sashimi course followed by about 15 additional dishes (mix of nigiri, salmon roe and tiny fish over rice and maxi). The total cost for the two of us was about 14,000 Yen (roughly US$90 per person).
The couple who owns and operates the restaurant is really cute and friendly. Unfortunately, we don't speak Japanese, so we weren't able to communicate very well, but we had a great time and would definitely come back again!
