I had read reviews about being careful hereand you are often harrased by certain types. I went to Roppongi for a night out with my husband and we were left alone, maybe it is different for singles. We had a blast here, visiting many different bars, some were very expensive but it's worth a splurge now and then. We found Roppongi to be alive, bright, crowded and loads of fun. Motown was not worth the visit, music playing however one is not allowed to dance, even a little bit of movement on your chair, wriggle your shoulder and the bar staff will instantly confront you and demand that you stop. This is all whilst playing rock and dance music, there is nothing 'Motown' about Motown. Hub was one of the better bars with a great atmosphere, as was The Supper Club. The Black Horse was seedy - here they will only let you in if they think you are amazing/beautiful/important enough, too pretentious for me, we had one very expensive drink and left. The Sports Bar gave great service, although it is rather dark and smoky and could get very seedy later on in the night. Shamrock was average. All in all we had a great night out and I would definitely recommend Roppongi for those who are partial to a great night of bright lights in a big city and drinking!

If you like the hectic busy side of large cities the Roppongi area in Tokyo is the place to go. It is easy to get to on the Tokyo subway which has two stops for this large shopping area. Here is where you will find the large 30 story light displays with LED advertising and TV programs. It is a dazzling display of technology. A must see in the evening.
The shopping is this area is what the locals and tourist come for. Large shops ranging from electronics to high end clothing shop abound on all sides of the streets for blocks and blocks.
An interesting place to go simply to people watch. Worth a visit if you are okay with massive crowds and traffic congestion.

Roppongi is an awesome party spot...but it's even better if you speak Japanese! It's a little on the expensive side, but going out and having a blast a couple times a year never bankrupted anyone. If you're looking for a taste of America, there's also a Friday's and an Outback in the area. I recommend a little jazz club called "Alphie's" after dinner, it's well worth the cover charge (no bad covers of sixties country music there!)

A word of warning. There are men, mostly Nigerians, all up and down Gaien Higashi Doori (the main strip in Roppongi), luring the unsuspecting into clubs with promises of ludicrously cheap drinks and easy women. Well, once you get in there and have a couple of drinks, they present you with a bill for a few hundred dollars, and if you object, a few more thugs congregate to "help" you pay, escorting you to an ATM, if necessary. That said, they're only dangerous if you go inside their clubs, so just blow them off when they approach you on the street, and have fun in a place of your own choosing.

The Roppongi area was great to have a wander around and see some of the newer developments of Tokyo.

I don't know why people like it there. This is a place with hundreds of restaurants, bars and club and noisy place towards the weekend. Not a good shopping district as well.
