Posh tea in stunning atrium

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 8, 2019via mobile
OVERALL: Had a post-meeting tea break in the hotel’s multi-story, glass enclosed atrium. Fine tea and snacks with a beautiful view of their open-air atrium.

SCENERY: Open-Air atrium hosts multiple wedding couples taking their photos in traditional clothing. They have a beautiful internal waterfall with a river stone beach.

COOL THINGS:
- Wedding kimono shop - they have one on premise and it looks to be quite large
- Meguro River - during cherry blossom season, this is one of the places to take photos. The cherry blossoms create a pink wall against the meandering river.

The Gajoen is a beautiful property located on the Meguro River, a few blocks from Meguro Station. It is a boutique hotel in a peaceful location, a nice change of pace after we spent 4 nights in Shibuya at a large high-rise hotel. It's a pleasant half hour walk along the river to get to Naka-Meguro station and the heart of the cherry blossom promenade, restaurants, shops, the new Starbucks Reserve Roastery, etc., or a short taxi ride (there is no direct train connection between Meguro and Naka-Meguro, they serve different lines.)

I was a bit concerned that the location would be inconvenient, but not at all. It's only about a 5-minute walk to the station, and easy if you take the escalators up through the adjacent office building. There's a nice bakery at the bottom; go up past the entrance to Amazon, and past the Family Mart in the courtyard to a level side street where you can walk a couple blocks to the station. Note that this route is not open before 7 am, and not sure what time it closes at night.

Apparently the hotel is an historic property, but it does not feel old or dated at all. There are several restaurants onsite - Japanese, Chinese, American grill, casual café, and Hama steakhouse, which was wonderful. The main floor is gorgeous. The hotel is on floors 6-8, with a reception area and lounge on the 8th floor. The lounge serves breakfast, snacks, afternoon tea, and an open bar with light bites from 5 to 8pm nightly. It was a lovely place to relax, and I loved being able to just walk down the hall to breakfast (we were on the 8th floor). Breakfast itself was a B+, but the made to order French toast was amazing - very light and fluffy, yet rich.

Our executive suite was spacious and very comfortable. It included a second powder room in the living room, which was handy when we were both getting ready or to avoid disturbing a sleeping partner. There was a walk-in closet and luggage storage area next to the powder room, and a small additional hanging closet with drawer space in the bedroom. Kudos for including an electrical outlet inside the in-room safe. The double beds are huge. The bathroom was gorgeous. It included a steam room behind the shower, nice jetted tub, and practically every amenity you could imagine - though only one sink, and the mirror/lighting could have been better. The hairdryer was also kind of weak, which I found true of most hotels in Japan.

I really loved the Gajoen, and would definitely want to stay here again!

Dear Seatlle98101

Thank you for your choosing and stay with us.

Most of our rooms are large rooms with living rooms and bedrooms over 80 square meters, so guests with lots of luggage can be comfortable.

I am delighted that you enjoyed the food at the guest lounge, the steakhouse and breakfast.

The bathroom with a steam sauna room also seemed to be comfortable, so it was more than anything.

Thank you so much for loving us. We aim to create a hotel that will be loved by many guests from now on.

We're looking foward and welcoming you at the next an opportunity.

All my best,

This place is a real gem.
Free shuttle bus available every 20 min took us straight from outside Meguro Station to the Hotel. Driver, reception, concierge, everyone was extremely polite and happy to welcome us. A short walk trough a beautiful corridor took us to the lift up to the 8th floor where the reception of the hotel is. While waiting we were offered drinks of all types, and delicious complimentary Japanese snacks are served while appreciating the views of Meguro river.
Our room was a twin room with an enormous living area for Japanese’s standard. Huge glass windows to admire Mount Fuji on a clear day. In the bathroom, there was a separate bath / jacuzzi, sauna, shower and all the complentary toiletries you can imagine.
Daily rate is a little bit pricey but if you can afford it, it is worth it. As well as breakfast, which is served until 11:00 am, there’s afternoon tea and snacks until late during the day which were enjoyed with delicious sakes and japanese sparkling wine. Breakfast had all the authentic Japanese cousine but also western food which was truly enjoyed by our 5 years old daughter. Hotel also offer a mobile phone with WiFi which included national and international calls. High standard levels of cleanliness and quality.
3 min walk there is the Meguro river with its beautiful Cherry Blossom panorama, we were very lucky to get the full blossom of the Sakura!
Staff is super and make you feel more than special. I can not recommend this place enough. Still a lot more to tell but you must discover yourself. Thank you so much Hotel Gajoen for the fabulous staying.

We didn’t stay here but enjoyed walking through the facility for some coffee. The property is very attractive for tourists who are discovering Japan and we are sure they will enjoy their stay. We have no idea what the prices are like but most likely on the high side

We had the pleasure of staying for 2 nights at this prestigious hotel whilst attending a friend's wedding.

All we can say is wow !

The staff, service, room, executive lounge, and location cannot be described in words but need to be experienced in order to understand how truly amazing this hotel is.

From check in to check out everything was of the highest standard.

Our room was a huge twin executive suite, with a sauna jaccuzi shower and a huge selection of bathroom products.

The room also came with separate guests bathroom and luggage storage room plus all the usual amenities a room if this standard should have.

About the executive lounge, the food was the best of the best, with breakfast, morning afternoon tea, cocktails and snacks throughout the day all served overlooking mount Fuji in the background. For those who wished you could also enjoy a tea making ceremony too.

I could continue to write so much more about our heavenly experience but don't wish to spoil it for you..... for a taste of old Japan just book and enjoy ..... it will stay in your memory forever !

I was introduced to this hotel by a friend of mine who took me and a visitor from Germany here in 2018 I was so impressed by the deco on the ground floor so I took my friend from Singapore here this time.

We were so impressed by the traditional rooms at Hyakudan Kaidan that are full of typical Japanese painting or craft, although the doll exhibition happening at the time did not allow us to fully appreciate them. The Garden at the hotel was also beautiful. Finally the deco along the hallway... It really matches its statement on its website - a museum of hotel beauty.

Disclaimer: I did not stay at the hotel, only a few hours to admire its beauty, this review does not cover its quality of service or condition of rooms
