“Very good tempura”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

Very good tempura, but frankly I realised that even though this is an excellent place for tempura, not all food is good for frying (like eel, which tastes much better grilled) and eating fried food all night is too much, too heavy and they bring many different courses and somewhere after the half of the list, you are already full. They are not flexible with reservations, one of our friends got sick in a group of 13 and they charged for 50% (about 85 USD) for that person.

“Best tempura, changed my opinion on a category of food”
Reviewed April 7, 2014

Our five point review:

1. Best tempura hands down. Honestly have never tasted fried shrimp that was so buttery and crisp on the outside with the THINNEST layer of batter, and so succulent and sweet on the inside. When the heads were separately fried and upon biting down not only get the crispy shell, but the delicious umami of the inside

2. Beautiful setting, almost a little zany, yet so understated. Sounds contradictory, but upon first glance, everything looks simple and in it's place, but then upon careful inspection, you'll notice the whimsical decorations (like the fedora-shaped cooking hood)

3. Silent, a true master. Chef Tetsuya Saotome is enigmatic. Never once during lunch wavering in focus. He was extremely serious about his craft. The assistant whom we spoke to said the chef has been at his craft for 53+ years! Yet we were engaged in the meal and the chef ended up drawing for us on the menu after the dinner - we were blown away

4. A little difficult to find, only 9 seats. We came for lunch and sat at the bar and it was a intimate, very enjoyable meal. We ordered the large set because we didn't want any food envy and it paid off!

5. Not only were we inspired by the delicious meal, but were also but the chef's attention to detail, his unwavering focus and stolid demeanor, yet his whimsical touches. The decorations, the shrimp drawing for us, the photo he happily took with us.

One of the best food experiences I've ever had!

“Best place to taste tempura dishes”
Reviewed November 27, 2013 via mobile

İt is where the best tempura dishes are served in Tokyo. It is a small restaurant in a side street and therefore prior booking and taking a taxi there is a must. The fixed menu includes fried dishes from shrimp heads, fishes to vegetables, however, none of the dishes leaves an oily taste in the mouth. İt is certainly one of the best restaurants in Tokyo. While the chef and his assistant are cooking customers are sitting around a bar, watching, talking and enjoying their food in a traditional setting. Worth a visit indeed.
