“No information in English”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

After crossing all Tokyo to see an exhibition I was extremly disapointed to find out that there was no information in English except the name of the artist, which is not enough for Contemporary Art.
The building is really cool but not worth the trip as you won't understan anything if you are not a master in Contemporary Art.

“The quintessentially unimportant museum”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

This is a very remote museum that is definitely not worth the trip. The contemporary art was pretty average, and nothing could seriously capture our imagination. Of course, as of most art museums, there was more value in the aesthetical attributes of the pieces than in any form of physical grandeur (which some people still denote artistic), but even so there was nothing especially fascinating to observe.

“Wonderful Museum if you like Modern Art”
Reviewed June 30, 2012 via mobile

The MOT is a great medium-sized museum that's a little off the beaten track (though still easily accessible in central Toko). If you like modern art, then it's a great half-day trip, especially paired with the nearby Shirakawa gardens and / or the Tokyo-Edo Museum.

The museum rotates its permanent collection (500 yen) several times a year and also offers special exhibits (1000 yen gets you into both the special and permanent exhibits). The building itself is a work of modem art... All glass and metal and tall ceilings.

Rare for a Japanese museum, it has great English signage.

The museum also has a cafe, gift shop, and reading library. It is located next to Kiba Koen Park (large free park where locals walk their dogs and bring their kids to play). Walking in the neighborhoods around te museum (off of the large main streets) is a slice or normal, everyday residential Tokyo -- a much saner, more liveable place than Shibuya or Shinjuku.

If you don't like modern art, give this museum a miss.

“Great museum off the beaten path”
Reviewed March 30, 2012

I discovered this museum towards the end of my trip to Tokyo. It's accessible from the Oedo Subway line (E-14 station), but it's definitely in a suburban area.

The museum is a beautiful, spacious building and the exhibits were very well curated and quite interesting.

At the time of my visit, the exhibits included Ay-O (known for the rainbow streamer attached to the Eiffel Tower), Atsuka Tanaka, and a great selection of smaller exhibits from the permanent collection.

For English speakers, there is good signage and pamphlets for each section of the museum.

“Beautiful Space.......”
Reviewed February 7, 2012

What a beautiful setting to see some contemporary Art. Even if "the art" does not grab you, the building will, including the delicious restaurant downstars.
