“Out of the hustle/bussle of Tokyo but close enough to get in.”
Reviewed April 4, 2014

Stayed at the Hotel Sunroute for a week to explore Tokyo and attend a convention at the Tokyo Big Sight. The convenience of being walking distance to the convention centre and two seperate train lines was a huge plus. It's a bit out of the way, but luckily everything is a brief train ride. In house cafe and convenience store are a huge plus to grab a snack/items you require/forgot to take!

Room Tip: Don't expect a large room if hiring a standard, fit a couple in at most.

I was in Tokyo for a workshop. As the workshop was held in that hotel, so staying at the hotel was a sensible thing to do. I have no complaints about the hotel in terms of its cleanliness and comfort. The room and bathroom were clean and of comfortable size. Breakfast selection at the hotel was also good and with some small changes to the selection once every few days. The hotel was easily accessible by the limousine bus from both airports. Most of the hotel staff speak reasonably good English.

My only complain about the hotel is its location. There weren't many places to dine and shop within walking distance. It will only be ideal if you are going to Disney Land. Although the hotel was near a couple of metro stations, these were not on the main subway network and hence you need to make several transfers before you can reach your destinations and as everyone knows, transportation in Japan can be quite expensive.

The Sunroute Ariake is what it is, and that's just fine - I could offer no improvements. It's a hotel for business travel - very basic rooms with comfortable beds, nice linens, and even a top-shelf Toto toilet with a Washlet. For a western man, the washroom may involve a bit of stooping, but no actual contortions. The hotel has some decent food options, as well as a very well-stocked 'Lawson' convenience store. If you're doing business in Ariake or a show at Big Sight, then this is a cost-effective and decent hotel option. Also, the staff is superb!

Room Tip: Note there is no gym.

I had a 5D4N stay at Hotel Sunroute Ariake solely for Tokyo Marathon and I must say it was a great stay.

Location: perfect for Tokyo Marathon as it is only 5 minutes walk to the Big Sight where the expo was held and where the finish line was. It is near to 2 main metro stations, one of which is the Kokusai-Tenjijo station which is on the Rinkai line and is only 30 minutes away from Shinjuku. Diver City is only 1 metro station away or if you prefer walking, it is about 20 minutes away. I did most of my shopping there. :)

Room: Size-wise, like any other business hotel in Tokyo, the single room I had was small but sufficient for solo travelers like me. The bed was comfortable, the only thing to pick on was the pillows which were a bit too hard for my liking.

Staff: Staff were very polite, very courteous and their English was good. There was this little incident where I left my laundry unattended for too long and the staff had to remove them from the washing machine so that other guests could use; when I went to collect my clothes from the reception, the staff bowed and apologised profusely which was unnecessary as I was the culprit who caused all the inconvenience. I was a bit embarrassed for my wrongdoing and yet impressed by their exceptional level of customer service.

Food: I only had breakfast and I must say their food was yummy. The spread was good and I particularly like the Japanese rice. Yes, I could eat 2 big bowls of plain rice with a bit of pickles and seaweed, straight up! There are quite a lot of restaurants around the area, so if you would like to try food outside of the hotel, you are really spoilt with choices.

Transport to/fro airport: Airport Limo Bus service is limited though. Need to check the times and make sure you don't miss one as the next bus would be 2 hours later. The journey is about 80 minutes between the hotel and Narita airport.

Other comments: there is a 24/7 convenience store on 2nd floor and they sell all sorts of bread, Japanese packed meals, bentos and sushis which are of good quality.

I really liked staying in this hotel, yes the room was small but comfortable. It had a deep bath and was very clean. Small fridge. The staff were very polite and helpful. Check-in was quick. There are two restaurants and a 24 hour convenience store. The convenience store was small but had everything from sushi, cakes, meals that they would heat up for you in the store microwave, chips and toiletries and beer.
The buffet breakfast was good with a selection of Japanese and Western food.
The area itself is great for exploring with a large selection of food outlets and cafe's. As you walk along the long wide promenade you will see large buildings, a very big Ferris Wheel. The shopping mall where the Ferris wheel is located has three level's. It has a family level, Grand Level and a Venus Level. The Venus level is something to see, very pretty and different.
The hotel is located near the railway station. You can catch the Limousine Bus to and from the Narita Airport . I had a great time in Tokyo and will definitely return one day.

I knew the rooms were TINY coming into the deal so this was not a shock.

The desk staff were friendly.

The bed was very comfortable. I really enjoyed the buckwheat pillow.

The WiFi worked well.

The shower had plenty of hot water.

I would most certainly return.

This place is really nice and close to a lot of things. Right beside one of the many malls. The room was rather tiny, and slight warm. Had the air on 68* but could not get it any cooler. Very friendly people!! The restaurant food is decently good especially for breakfast. Never ate any other meal.
