“Tepanyaki heaven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

Ukaitei Ginza provided a superb dinner. My friend and I selected the mid-range menu and, although being told that one of the shell fish courses was not available, the restaurant staff was able to replace it with a better option. And then the show began.

We had the honor of being served by Maestro chef Junichi Taniwaki, who displayed the reason why he has earned his Maestro title.

The dinner was magnificent and combined European flavors with Japanese cuisine. It was a feast and we were honored with the opportunity of witnessing a unique Tepanyaki culinary show. The interior decoration was a little bit over the top but I understand the reason why they have it decorated in this manner.

Ukatei has set the benchmark in Tepanyaki cuisine and it will definitively ruin the rest of the Tepanyaki restaurants I will visit, as I think it is unbeatable in this field.

“Great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013 via mobile

Great selection of meats for typiniki and for a Michelin star resturant its pretty reasonable. Their garlic rice was crunchy and unique. Do try their abalone just preparing the dish is an experience to watch

“VERY MEMORABLE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We booked this restaurant based on a great review from Tetsuya. We didn't realise it was going to be fine dining so we we felt a tad underdressed. Oops!

The service is amazing and their English was ok. We managed to get an AMAZING teppanyaki chef, who spoke great English and was very personable...we had plenty to talk and giggle about. I think this is probably half the reason we loved Ukatei so much and the other half was THE FOOD! Absolutely divine! Excellent quality ingredients and perfectly prepared. We are still raving on about the beef which just simply melted in your mouth.

The decor was very "stiff" and old fashioned - not our style at all...very gawdy and over the top with floral jaquard and dark woods. There wasn't a buzz, but we easily turned a blind eye to the atmosphere/fit out as everything else was so great.

We were seated in a private room for our main, but we were taken out the back to an open area with a bar etc for dessert. Portions aren't huge, as you would expect, but you won't leave feeling hungry.

Yes, it was expensive but it was worth it. We walked out of there very satisfied and as the whole experience was amazing. We've been to so many fine dining restaurants in Japan, and this was definitely one of the top picks.

“Experience-not just dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013 via mobile

Excellent service from the red carpet entrance to the guy flagging down the cab st the end. We had a private room and the chef explained it all. Always had someone attending to almost every whim, however not intrusive at all. Food was delicious!
