Viainn Higashi Ginza

This is a great little business hotel. The rooms are tiny and there's only a view if you crane your neck but it was perfect for my needs. The staff are friendly and it's lovely and quiet. The bed was comfortable, the shower powerful and the loo seat warm. My only gripes are no wifi in the room - theres a cable that gives superfast broadband but that's no use if you want to go online via a smartphone. Also, no western TV channels on the TV. Breakfast is basic but there are plenty of coffee shops and cafes nearby.

Room Tip: Go high! The views are better

A couple of days after I checked out, I got a call from the hotel saying I left an earring in the room. If they didn't call, I'd never have known I had left it! I was impressed that they took the time to call to let me know I left this one small earring. I give them 5 stars for that. They were willing to mail it to me, but I was heading back to Tokyo in Nov so I picked it up in person. Yes, they kept it for me for a month.

One correction to my review of Oct 2012: even after you get your member card (which works as your room key), you still have to go to the reception to check in and check out. Only payments can be made on the machine.

Room Tip: This time I stayed in a Standard B room. It's bigger than a Standard A, but it comes with a sma...

Firm mattress, firm pillow, small room, very clean. What one would expect from a Tokyo business hotel. Windows can open, and the rear side of the hotel is away from the main street noise. Breakfast had plenty of buns and pastries to fill up on as well as other basic morning fare. The breakfast lounge area includes free wifi which fades in strength by the upper floors. There is a Ladies Only floor too for, I surmise, added security.

The front staff could speak some English and payment can be done through a machine which has an English setting.

Location: two subway stations are an easy walk less than three minutes away. A straight eight minute walk takes you past the revived Kabuki-za to central Ginza. More importantly to us, the hotel is across the street from the Tsukiji market. Since we anticipated jet lag having us awake before dawn, we chose this hotel so we could make use of our time and see the Tsukiji action.

If Tsukiji is your thing then this is a great option for value and location. A cheap alternative to Ginza hotels too. Other than that it is not significantly different from most local business-type hotels.

This hotel is relatively new and located in Tsukiji. If you're planning to go to Tsukiji area for sightseeing, I highly recommend this hotel. It's my first time staying here but will definitely return again. It's just a walking distance from Tokyo Metro stations. Tons of sushi restaurants. After eating sushi at night, I like to walk around Ginza. It's very vibrant and to see interesting buildings is very nice. Just soo many options for food.
I walked around Tsukiji at 6am but it's very busy. There are shops selling fresh vege/fruits/meat shops/etc. There are also many shops selling sushi plates/Japanese plates at reasonable price. Grocery shopping in Tsukiji is just fun! Wholesale price and bigger sizes for cooking ingredients (spices/sauces/etc). It's convenient and just great. Transportation in Tokyo is well planned so don't worry about the transportation. You can connect at most major stations. Hotel service was great. Provide free breakfast and got wi-fi at breakfast counter. LAN cable is available in the rooms. I reserved "ladies plan" and stayed at "ladies only" floor. Each floor got microwave/laundry/vending machines. The plan provided mini massager and was soo useful after walking alot. I have no complaint about this hotel. There were many foreigners staying at this hotel. I took Haneda Limo bus from Courtyard marriot Ginza for 900yen (adult). It's about 10min walk.

I've been staying in Higashi-Ginza (great value compared to Ginza) for the last few years on my annual trip to Tokyo. Via Inn Higashi-Ginza will be my go-to Tokyo hotel from now on. I’m recommending this hotel to all my friends in Japan.

Many business hotels have old guys at the reception, but at Via Inn, young female receptionists welcomed me on my late night arrival. (Many business hotels in Japan have been wooing female business travelers over the last decade or so.)

Check-in and check-out can be done on a machine in the lobby. Once you become a member (for free), you get to keep your key!

Four subway stations are within 5-10 min. waking distance: Higashi-ginza (Hibiya and O-ed Lines), Tukiji (Hibiya Line), Shintomi-cho (Yurakucho Line) and Ginza (Ginza Line). I walk to JR Yuraku-cho to catch the bullet train. On your way to Yuraku-cho, you stroll through Ginza. Even Tokyo Station is a 15-min walk away.

I paid less than 8000 yen per night (booked via Rakuten Travel), expecting a lousy breakfast, but I was wrong! Their breakfast buffet consists of several kinds of fresh pastries, salad (Japanese breakfast staple), fruits, onigiri (rice balls), miso soup and onion soup along with juice, coffee, black and green tea.

Being right next to Tsukiji Market, it’s ideal for Tsukiji Market visitors. (Tsukiji and Ginza are right next to each other and Ginza is only a few blocks from the hotel.)

Room Tip: I’m going to stay in a larger (Deluxe) room next time. If you have a suitcase, you can’t open it in...
