“Expensive great steak”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Named after the novel "Le Père Goriot" for some obscure reason this is a bistrot-like branch of the main Aragawa restaurant in Tamura-cho, Shimbashi. In this small space charcoal-broiled Tajima beef from Sanda is served. This is seriously good steak and will have you fork JPY50000 per person. If money is an issue this will can spoil your experience. They also smoke a whole salmon fresh each week which is also a treat.

Beside the food not much else shows how rare a place.

“Smoke house or Smoke over your Eyes?”
Reviewed June 13, 2010

First off if you wish to eat here make sure you have a big budget. The place is tiny and small but intimate. They serve only old world wine that is impressive but looked to be improperly stored as they did not have a wine cooler. So the first glass of red I tasted was corked. Switched out to a white Burgundy that was great for the appetizer.

The steak was great and cooked to perfection the chefs know what they are doing. The only drawback is vegetables are tiny to say they are Japanese size might be a compliment in the electronics industry. My guest happened to be a vegetarian.

In the end the bill came to just below $1,000. I would take a pass on this place and go to teppanyaki place that serves the same quality beef with much better wine selection and atmosphere. This place is one of those places created out of the 1980 real estate boom in Japan and no one has bothered to change it.

“Wagyu Smoke Master”
Reviewed August 14, 2009

This was my first Wagyu steak and every time I go back to Tokyo I will have it.
Decor- Gorio, in the heart of Ginza district, is a very small steak house by western standards. The restaurant has two main rooms that seat at most eight people each. The place looks like a steakhouse, wooden details and in between the two dinning rooms the smoke/oven with the smoke master and his apprentice. Beautiful place.
The steak- You have not had steak until you try Gorio. It is an out of body experience and I cannot say enough about it. Also, make sure to have the smoked salmon appetizer will give you a taste of what's to come. A word of caution regarding "sides", these are served japanese size.
Bottom line- This is one of those one of a kind places that you will not find outside Japan, the price is very very steep but totally worth it. And make sure you bring a good cuban cigar to celebrate and as you leave remember to say Banzai, smoke master!
