“Conveneient location for home-base”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

Its a business area that's a fifteen minute walk (or 2 or 3 JR stops) to the Imperial Park. Plus, its only 2 stations away from popular Ueno Park. Small restaurants are in abundance, but cross you're fingers that you get a table for dinner. Business people take up many of the restaurants and they seem to drink and eat most of night!

“Who put the expressway over the river?”
Reviewed March 19, 2012

Nihonbashi literally means "Japan Bridge" and sure enough there is bridge over the river here. This area could have been beautiful had the govt decided not to put an ugly expressway over Tokyo's river system. So above this lovely bridge is a dark concrete road. The banks of the river have also been concreted over, so the river looks like an open sewer. The neighborhood is currently undergoing major reconstruction; it will be finished in about four years or so. Unfortunately, the reconstruction involves tearning down old and charming buildings and putting up ugly offices.

“New and Old”
Reviewed February 26, 2012

It is the start of Tokaidou 53 Stations in Edo Era. I found the basic point in the center of the road. The express way above the bridge should be removed. There are many histrical shirines, temples, shops and restaurants. I ate reasonable Tenpura rice bowl at a very popular restaurant and bought a nail cripper and Japanese sweet here and there.

“Good base in Tokyo”
Reviewed February 12, 2012

I stayed here and thought it was a great 'base' for exploring the city. Not much in the way of attractions, but laid back and centrally located. Good place to get a 'slice of life' in an otherwise very busy city.
