The 4th floor of this bookstore has English language books. The selection is not exactly to my tastes (my favorites are the Page One and Eslite in Taipei) - but this floor offers enough variety to keep a bibliophile entertained for awhile. It may be impossible to walk out of here without buying something - I haven't managed to yet.
Your non-bookish friends can keep themselves busy browsing the exntesive fancy pen inventory, eyeglasses, gifts, stationery supplies, etc. In December they have racks of unique Christmas cards, and a large calendar section. My last visit to this store, there were two craftsmen with stalls displaying their wares while they performed their craft (woodworking etc.).
There is also a small cafe on this floor, and the most excellent bathrooms.
The only thing lacking might be more places to sit and review a stack of books - giving the subway tired feet a rest.
