“Great Hotel Off the Usual Tourist Track”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2012

My daughter and I were in Tokyo Aug. 2-7 and enjoyed our stay at the Monterey Hanzomon. As many had already mentioned, this hotel is conveniently located right across a Tokyo Metro subway stop - Hanzomon ('Z' line, colour-coded purple), stop no. 'Z05'. Our room was clean, comfortable, and more spacious than I expected - given Tokyo standards. Although front desk staff had limited English, they were very helpful nonetheless. There are no major attractions or shopping in the immediate area, but there are several restaurants, cafes, and convenience stores on the street. Be advised, though, that this hotel does not offer currency exchange services, so make sure to get some yen at the airport if you arrive on the weekend. All in all, a wonderful stay for us.

Room Tip: Given the location in a relatively quiet area, don't expect a view.

I went to this hotel with my wife in December 2011.

The rooms are modern and clean and at a very good price (I paid 80 euros) for Tokyo. Service is excellent and the staff was very professional. The rooms were quiet which is really a luxury in this city.

As for the location it's in front of the Hanzomon subway station so very convenient. The surrounding though are not very interesting.

The only bad side was that the view from the room was poor, there was a building hiding everything but at this price you can't really ask for more.

I would recommend this hotel

I don’t see how the hotel can boast the sign of 2012-Tripadvisor winner. It is certainly nicely located next to the Hanzamon subway line but the lobby is small and a bit depressing, with all sorts of small objects on display on the check-in desk with price tags. Rooms are also small even for Tokyo standards. We had to pay a surplus for an upgrade to two regular twin beds on top of an already expensive rate compared to other hotels (our fault was a reservation made the day before when all other good hotels were soldout). However, the place is clean and the staff is helpful. A plus is that the hotel allowed us to discover a nearby small restaurant full of people almost at midnight when we were finally ready for dinner: Watamini-chi. Wide choice of food – all good and varied from Japanese to more western, fast service, smiling and patient staff, and very good price.

Room Tip: Upgrade in any case

I had done a lot of research before finally making a decision to reserve a room at Monterey Hanzomon. After a stay for a week at this hotel, I heartily agree with all the positive reviews posted here about the hotel. A fantastically lcoated hotel at this price is very difficult to come by.

The location, neighbourhood, price, quality of room, amenities etc etc were of an high order............ A subway station at the door of your hotel is a huge convenience and offers great connectivity to just about anywhere!

Nice eating options are also available nearby and for a traveller in Tokyo who is expected to spend much of his time out of the hotel on work or sightseeing, this is a perfect place to come back to and rest your aching limbs.

Stayed here in April 2012. Fantastic location just a stone's throw away from Hanzomon Station. Convenient store around 100m away from the hotel. Ramen shop literally beside the hotel door. Which is around Y500 per bowl. Imperial Palace around 20min walk as well as the Japanese Modern Museum. Yasuki niku shrine(controversial shrine) is also very close to the area.

I just wish the rooms were bigger. We were 3 adults in one room. Space is quite limited but will suffice. Hotel is tucked inside the resedential area so noise is minimal and the vibe/surroundings of the location is is relaxed.

Additional note:
My long time local friend from Tokyo was really impressed when I booked this hotel. He was surpised that I know this fantastic, good value, good location hotel.

Hotel Monterey Hanzomon is a really bargain for the crazy expensive Tokyo hotel prices. Expect smalls rooms, business economic style hotel, but very clean, with a lot of ammenities, next to Hanzomon metro station (is true that there is not much to see in the area). High recommended!

We stayed here for a week in March and our first impression was that it was quite a nice hotel and we got more impressed when we got to our room. It was a small room (which is to be expected in Japan) But it was quiet fancy and nice. Our room faced to the middle of a building so there was not much to see but we were not bothered by that as we were there to see Tokyo.

This is a business district so there is not much to see around there, There is a family mart and a 7-11 convenience stores around but in the evening this is all that is open. If you come back early in the evenings make sure you have arranged for food or take a trip to the family mart where they have pre made meals which are quite tasty.

It is directly across the street from a Hanzomon (Purple) subway station that can bring you to the city quickly enough.

I dont think I would stay here again as there are few restaurants around here so it is kind of quiet at night.
