“Great location, nice room, but service should be improved”

We stayed here for four nights. Like others mentioned, the loction can't be better. Room is pretty with great size. Everything in the room is prefect.

It's a pricey hotel so we expect the service could be better. Slow check in (it took us about 30 minutes) and luggage services. They didn't refill or replace bath and shampoo sets everyday. I think a 5 star hotel should at least refill the bath and shampoo bottles. Peninsula only provided one set (shampoo, conditioner and shower gel). For a family like us, one set was not enough for two days. When seeing the almost empty bottles, we felt not staying in a luxuary hotel.

The neighborhood is great. We like the location very much though we think the service is just average. We visited Tokyo several times and this one is our top choice so far.

Stayed in the executive suite, the suite is wonderful as always with great technologies and attention to details that are already mentioned before. I just want to point out something.

I used their limousine service (which is ridiculously expensive) for return airport transfer. The staffs who greeted me at the airport are nice and friendly, however, I feel that the drivers (from airport and from hotel) are somewhat cold and unfriendly, maybe it's because of their lack of english skill. I expect more from the Peninsula legendary service, but the service at the hotel cannot be faulted.

Room service menu also needs an upgrade, the menu listed is not worth the expensive price and it lacks of authentic japanese food.

Overall a 5 Star Hotel, however, the restaurant / lounge ("Peter") could use some work. Located right in the middle of Tokyo - views of Palace from high floors.

Checked-in late an got upgraded to a suite on the 22nd floor. Main room was maybe 25' x 12' with huge King size bed, built in desk, couch and chairs facing TV, Floor to ceiling drapes with MASSIVE ELECTRONIC controls - EVERYWHERE. 50" TV, Bamboo woven ceiling, Fax, Modem, Printer, 100 + 200 V outlets, Full Mini Bar, Internet Radio.

Room was hot and humid at check-in. Couldn't figure AC controls (no specific temp numbers) so called desk and had them send up help to fix it - took to long for service to arrive - so told them to set to 21 degrees C and went to bar ("Peter"). Returned to perfect room temp and you can adjusted humidity level as well.

Bathroom. Huge tub, 2 sinks on separate walls, shower, Toto (Star Trek) toilet system, 2 american style robes etc. They should move the sinks to the same wall to make the 15 x 15 room even bigger.

Closet - Walk in 10 x 12 room - build in table with mirror, 2 japanese robes, Safe, Hair Dryer, Nail Dryer etc. Separate locked Valet Closet for laundry, shoe shine or package delivery.

Bar/Restaurant: This was the only disappointment. We went up for drinks at midnight. we ordered to Grapefruit and Vodka - has zero vodka in either drink. Appetizers were OK - nothing special and expensive. View was mediocre and furniture looked cool - but was not comfortable.

Check In/Check Out: Very efficient.

Everything about our stay was great - the rooms, service, front desk, concierge, which you can gather from other reviews ....I will therefore focus & highlight the extra touch:

- Our reservation at Peninsula Tokyo was spread over two bookings because we decided to stay in Hakone for one night to properly enjoy the onsen (hot spring) and ryokan (traditional inn) experience. We had left our luggage bags at Peninsula and when we returned from Hakone to re-check in, we were pleasantly surprised to learn our bags were already in our new room. This is great initiative.

- Hubby and I are food lovers and the concierge desk had really good suggestions on where we could fulfill our yakitori, okonomiyaki, unagi, sushi, ramen cravings. These suggestions were also convenient to get to. They did not push for dining within the hotel, which is something we experience in hotels in other countries.

- The complimentary Rolls Royce ride (when car is available and for 2km radius) is a great service - pampers the soul and helps the wallet (cab rides in Tokyo can be hefty if you are used to New York, Shanghai, Singapore, etc prices). What shone for us was how the driver went out of his way to ensure (1) we stayed dry when we were alighting in wet weather and (2) show us the way amidst a busy Tsukiji market to a sushi chain that he had suggested in response to our one innocent question on where we could find good sushi in the market.

- I was having a cold and requested for hot water. On both occasions (as we checked in twice), a hot thermos (re-boilable) flask and kettle were brought to the room within five minutes of request. I also requested for support pillows (tempur shaped), which they had and it was great for my blocked nose.

- Other reviewers have also mentioned the bottled Fiji water, gym shoes, swim cap and goggles that they discreetly offer for your workout. These are really thoughtful, but I further love the "wet swimsuit dryer", "spare plastic bag", "comb" and "mouthwash" in the ladies locker room. So much thought put into considering the guests' needs, both before and after.

- Coffee was great. They had the Lavazza coffee capsules, which in my opinion, taste far better than the nespresso ones. We did prefer the creme & aroma flavor than the other type which we thought tasted a bit sour. Having said that, both had strong body and did its job of perking us up in the morning.

- VOIP phone: we love this feature of Internet telephony because it helps to save international call charges. The Peninsula in Shanghai offers free VOIP calls, which is fantastic. The Tokyo VOIP service comes with local call charges for international VOIP calls. Was very reasonable: just about JPY249 for a short call. Wasn't timing the clock as I was speaking to my dearest two year old back in Singapore. It probably was for around 5-10 min since she can't yet carry a good conversation!

- the remote control panels on both sides of the bed (Yes, hubby and I like to lounge and laze!). Would be even greater if the blinds had remote control too :)

- love the TV remote control. It is one of those that does not need you to figure out where to aim for the right spot ;D

Let me start by saying that rooms are awesome, there's incredible attention to every little bit (which extends to overall concierge service) - sadly, it's not a perfect hotel as all food is incredibly expensive and you can't get away for less than $150 per person for a meal that's not breakfast (don't breathe a sigh of relief, $80 is completely normal to start the day) and barely includes a couple dishes - and that's without alcohol! That's before adding that the food itself isn't superb. So if you stay here, I suggest you dine elsewhere.

We stayed for three nights at the end of our two weeks trip to Japan in August.The location is great to explore Tokyo particularly Ginza shops. Although arrival reception was excellent and service level in all area quite good, we could not but compare the property with the Hong Kong
Peninsula where we stayed in April. Somehow it lacks the grandure of the latter,maybe its the cramped lobby restaurant that one has to pass through or the feeling that the property is trying to save money on room amenities ,although the room rate is quite pricy compared to HK Penin,room is excellent and sizable,but things like no welcome fruit basket,had to request a new shampoo set for two days in a roll and its hot in August so daily hair wash is needed.no turn down sweets.When we travel we like to experience a homely atmosphere.Breakfast like most Penin ,has very small selection.It seems here its like a business hotel or may be this is Tokyo.

Room Tip: Request room on high floor with view of Park.

We went to Tokyo with a little skepticism about staying here after reading the reviews. Yes the restaurants were a pricey, as our most good restaurants in Tokyo, yes the spa treatments could be better and are expensive, but other then that with each passing day we loved the place more and more. We were there for five nights, toured Japan for two weeks and then so happy to come back to our home at the Peninusla for another three nights. The staff there is just amazing. So friendly, so efficent, so knowledgable, it feels like you are home. The rooms are huge, modern, comfortable and a pleasure to hang out in. The swimming pool is fantastic and the people who work in the spa are so kind and helpful one can relax and feel completely taken care of. The lobby takes some getting used to with its zen simplicity, but it grows on you and works. The breakfasts is great, the coffee latte yummy, and the breads wow. Some of the luxury hotels in Tokyo have a heavy feeling to them. The Peninusla feels like and fresh. We liked it so much we enjoyed staying in our rooms even though all of Tokyo beckoned. When we did leave the location a few blocks from Ginza was ideal. We cant wait to find anotehr reason to return to the Peninusla Tokyo.
