“Nice if you are near by”

My 12 year old son visited the shrine since we were staying in Akasaka. What surprised us was that the front gate had an escalator to the top. The back entrance had a nice set of arches leading down to the street level. Not a destination but nice shrine to stop by.

I was amazed with the nice stairs that you can take from the street to the shrine: each step have one red gate and the many gates together give you a very special view and felling. The shrine also is very nice and have many nice statues and views.

Just behind the office of the Prime Minister and Diet Members, this shrine is a hidden treat for the eyes. On weekends, it is often the place for wedding parties to visit in traditional Japanese clothes; on week day mornings, one catch Japanese 'office ladies' and 'salary man' bowing here on their way to the office.

Worth a visit if you're nearby, though I wouldn't make a long journey for it. Pretty corridor leading up to it from the main road running past it. Worth noting as much as the shrine itself is the big gate on the main road leading to it.

This small shrine wouldn't stand comparison to some of the grander shrines in Japan. However it is still a lovely, relatively quiet and tourist free, medium sized shrine, with attached hotel, in downtown Tokyo.
Definitely worth a visit if you haven't had shrine overload elsewhere, but do make use of the escalators from street level to save the legs.
