It was my first visit to this restaurant. The room was a nice cozy private room. The starter was red snapper's "Shiokara" (salt-pickled) that matches perfecrtly with Sake. Then follwed by season's appetizers that illustrates a New Year. Thinly sliced flesh ("Sashimi") of tiger blow fish ("Torafugu") was hilarious and my favorite. As it is very thinly sliced, you can also enjoy the picture of the dish through Sashimi. Grilled "Shirako" of blow fish was another great dish that matches with Sake. The last one was a the rice porridge of blow fish. I could enjoy various types of blow fish dishes with excellent Japanese Sake called "Dassai".
The restaurant is headquarterd at Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi prefecture where most blow fish are traded. Shunpanro HQ is the historic place since early 20th.

As my husband liked the last course menu, sesame pudding, he brought it home as a present (the restaurant has a takeout menu for it. it had 6 pieces in a cute plastic box). Even one bite was enough to realize its rich and strong sesame taste, like eating a sesame chocolate, and a sesame freak would surely love it! It is very rich, but it's not too sweet and even a person who doesn't like very sweet tastes would enjoy it. It is a fusion of Japanese and western style and something recommended for foreigners!

I really enjoyed and got satisfied with various ways of cooking blowfish like sashimi, nabe, and deep fried, etc. They served very nice Japanese sake, too. Shunpanro in Shimonoseki is a very historic place where the Treaty of Shimonoseki was signed on April 17, 1895 ending the First Sino-Japanese War. I love to be there if I have a chance to visit Shimonoseki.
