“grand scale gardens”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2014

Although we missed the cherry blossoms, the new bright green leaves and other flowering trees/shrubs made up for it. Beautifully maintained, retaining the sense of history, well worth the walk and time

“OK”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2014

Arrived at Palace only to find that it is closed on Fridays and Mondays. Went back another day and strolled through the park. It was OK, but there are better gardens in the city that are free. Was not that impressed. Possibly it's better if you take a tour, not work going for the gardens alone.

“Nice for a walk”

This was nice, I got in just a little before closing so I had to rush around it a little, but it was nice for a walk.

“Enjoy the tranquility.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2014

In the middle of the bustling capital of Japan we took some time out to wander around the eastern gardens of the Imperial Palace and original Edo castle site.

The main castle area is only open to the public 2 days a year but some closed areas can be accessed via prior booking. There is no charge to enter the gardens.

The gardens were fresh and bright after 2 days of heavy rain and the walk allowed us time to enjoy the peace and quite away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo proper.

To get there you can use the subway and pop out at Takebashi which was just across the road from the Eastern Gate.

There is a small "Tea House" where you can get drinks, souvenirs and rest your feet.

Take the time and enjoy the tranquility.

“Avoid in summer”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2014

We were not able to enjoy this garden, Maybe because the Chinese garden I saw were different, and probably I was expecting something like that. But most probably, you simply don't have to do our mistake: don't go in August. If you are in Tokyo in summer, simply don't go there or you will not enjoy and will not have a good memory to bring back home. With the temperature of a Japanese summer, it's impossible to walk in that garden, you will have no refreshment.
