If you are missing a green open space then this is quite an easy place to visit and spend some time just forgetting about the city. There are other parks with lots of green where you can get away from the city for a while but this is one of the easier to visit.

Well maintained gardens and very interesting sounds emanating from the gymnasium behind the shrubs along the entry walkway!

One word of advice. Skip the Tokyo Imperial Palace. It's a waste of time. Instead, stroll through the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace. It is much larger, more beautiful, and it's free!

This place has all sorts of Japanese trees and plants and has a nice scenery/landscape. Make sure you bring a camera and take lots of photos. There are lots of benches to sit on too if you get tired.

the east gardens of the imperial palace is definitely not a muss when visiting tokyo. although the entrance fee was free (fortunately), there was nothing special or interesting in this garden. well we took advantage of the time to freshen up and rest a bit.

We wandered into the East Gardens thinking it was leading us into the Palace. Unfortunately we didn't realise that the palace only opens two days a year so we only saw it from afar. The trip wasn't entirely wasted though; the gardens are beautiful with plenty of greenery, interesting flowers and trees and a lake filled with koi carp. It was also nice to look up and see the skyscrapers surrounding us in such a peaceful place. There's also a few historic buildings around with signs describing what they used to be and a great art gallery with some lovely pieces.
It's worth popping by if you're in the area but don't go out of your way.
