Owner description: The current palace was constructed in the same spot where Edo Castle used to stand. Most of the palace grounds are not open to the public except for the East Gardens, which are accessible on select days.

Some wonderful photo opportunities and historic buildings right in the middle of town. A good break from walking around all the shops. Perfect if you can be there for Cherry Blossom season!

Good to walk around this area and see the palace grounds and gardens which make up elements in the history of the original city. Also fun to watch the fanatical Japanese joggers who run circuits around the palace area constantly.

This is one of those typical things to see when you go to Tokyo but it isn't one of the best. However, it is still amazing to see and you won't regret it. The only gripe is you don't really get to see the palace because it is guarded. There are other things to see in the massive park but that will leave a sting.

It was one of the better parks to walk around and see the trees and traditional Japanese buildings. It probably had the best autumn trees that I saw without paying an entrance fee and even some pink trees were found randomly. If you were expecting to go into a palace and walk around the ground, you'll be disappointing. It is still a nice walk and worth seeing, but plan to go do something else for the other half of the day.

No, the Emperor is not going to invite you in to walk around his house. Be reasonable in your expectations and this is a wonderful place for a walk. Beautiful, manicured Japanese pines, hundreds of them, make for great photography. The area around the famous bridge is crowded but if you are patient you can get some pictures without the crowds in them.

Like some others have written, we also were excited to go but ended up rather disappointed after making all the effort & expense to visit.
We spent about 20 minutes walking between the parking lot and the walls & only saw a bit of the corner building (pictured) & the guard shack.
We were with a local person & still couldn't figure out how to do anything more.
