“great”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013

Stayed with my wife. Service was great, room was immaculate and well set up, with wonderful bathrooms. The need to switch elevators when coming from parking to the room was a little inconvenient and lacks privacy, however overall a great experience.

We stayed at Grand Hotel for a total of 8 days and we were very satisfied with the size of the room for three people. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were able to communicate without any problem. The location was great because it was so close to the trains and subways. The room was clean and the extra toiletries was a nice touch. Highly recommend.

On the surface of it, this hotel looks ok but scratch the surface and the annoyances start piling up.

For a start this hotel seems to be stuck in the past. It still uses physical room keys. So apart from being clunky to use, it is very easy to accidentally lock you keys in the room due to the self-locking doors. Also there's no automatic activation of lights and aircon from the room access card we have come to expect of modern hotels.

The room light conttols are designed rather haphazardly, like they might have been done in the 1970's! But that's just the tip of the iceberg of room incenveniences. Incredibly, there is no free room WiFi. Rooms have LAN, but the hotel wants to charge ¥1000 per day for a WiFi adapter. Recognizing this as customer gouging, everyone seems to sit downstairs in the lobby where free WiFi is available. The rooms have only a kettle and a pair of mugs - no utensils, no microwave, and a tiny bar fridge packed with exorbitantly priced drinks. Anyone wanting a self-sufficient breakfast will be annoyed by the lack of amenity. The buffet breakfast available in the restaurant is a severe ¥2600 per head.

It's a typical, pretentious old style hotel with an abundance of superfluous, overpriced services and lack of consideration for the modern traveller. This reviewer was charged almost ¥10000 for a single load if laundry, which did not even require pressing.

The client experience is one of trying to avoid the traps in the way this place is set up and run. It's not even a great location, as the local Kudanshita station is not a major hub.

Unless this hotel modernised with the customer front and center, I would not stay here again.

Grand Palace is a historical place to Korean people, because President Daejung Kim was lodged at his young age. And easy to visit any places to Tokyo by subway near by Gudansita station.

The location doesn't have much surrounding it, but if you're up for learning the subway, or taking a cab to where you want to go, it is a good hotel. The breakfast buffet caters well to both western as well as Asian pallets, and was a very decent way to begin the day. It is near to a few metro lines, which makes getting to other areas easy.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a non-smoking room if that is important to you. The smoking floors were noticeabl...

This was the first hotel we stayed in while visiting Japan. It is located in the business district of Tokyo, so it was fairly quiet during the weekend, but there were still plenty of restaurants and other businesses open. The room was extremely clean and fairly roomy, but the AC only went down to 68 degrees F, so the room felt a bit humid and warm at times. WiFi is only available in the hotel lobby, but the room does have a high speed connection. Finally, the hotel has several restaurants and spas, but lacks a fitness room. All in all, the hotel provided a very pleasant stay.

We were part of a tour group in Tokyo - there to watch the World Cup Qualifying game - Japan vs Australia and we stayed at the Grand Palace for 4 nights. It was quite a bit swankier that what we were used to. The extra cost seems to come with the size of the lobby and the number of restaurants in the hotel more than a greater quality of room and facilities. If that's what you want then this is a perfectly good choice. A buffet breakfast - foods of all sorts - was included in the tariff, which probably came to about 28,000 Y per night for a twin room.

A good location - close to a number of subway lines and a 20-30 stroll down to the Imperial Palace. The 5km running track that circles the Imperial East Garden is a great place to get your day started.
