I have stayed at this hotel 5 times/30days the last 2 years, the last stay in January 2012. This hotel is rated as a 5 star hotel in some hotel magazines, and most of your experience here will be top-notch. For example, the service is superb, the amenities and the food options are great, and the hotel is clean and fresh. However, it is slightly old and run-down.
But as mentioned, service is great, so check-in and other things you need to have arranged is always done very quickly. I have used many of their services, like dry-cleaning, room service, concierge etc., and never had anything to complain at.
The rooms are OK size, for Japan pretty big. And the rooms are clean and you have internet connection (which I payed for if I do not remember wrong). However, it feels a bit old and truly needs a renovation all over to really give you that luxury feeling that you should get at a hotel like this. TV is good, but a small mystery how to work the remote. And if you do not speak Japanese, you do not have many options anyway.
Breakfast is good, even though it is mostly Japanese items, and I always leave breakfast full and satisfied. Think you can choose to have breakfast in two places, but I always chose the entry level breakfast as I was happy the first morning there.
When flying in to Tokyo, see if you have the option to fly to Haneda as Narita airport is so far away. I usually take the train/metro to the hotel and from Haneda I can get to Grand Palace in 45-60 minutes on my own (depending on time of the day), instead of sitting on the airport bus for 2 hours if flying in to Narita..However, if this is your first time in Japan, it may be rather complicated to do this yourself. (There is a metro station very close to the hotel.)
I really enjoy this hotel, so the 3 rating is a very strong 3. But considering the price, I just feel the hotel should have a newer feel to it, and maybe also a gym.
